He died after his Tesla Model X hit a concrete barrier in Silicon Valley on March 23, 2018. Specifics of the settlement were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s autopilot feature, which has been a major part of the company\u2019s appeal above its rivals, has come under heavy scrutiny in the time since the crash. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration<\/a> released a report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2833406\/tesla-recalls-2-million-electric-vehicles-safety-issues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"saying\">saying<\/a> that electric vehicles engaged in the autopilot feature are more likely to violate traffic laws, including \u201ctraveling straight through an intersection while in a turn-only lane, entering a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tesla-recalls-more-than-2-million-electric-vehicles-over-safety-issues\/\" title=\"Tesla recalls 2M+ electric vehicles due to safety concerns\">stop sign-controlled intersection<\/a> without coming to a complete stop, or proceeding into an intersection during a steady yellow traffic signal without due caution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NHTSA is investigating other instances where autopilot may have contributed to a crash.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To help solve the issue, Tesla sent out a software update in 2023. Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2939724\/tesla-to-mandate-installation-demo-self-driving-capability-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"announced\">announced<\/a> the implementation of an improved self-driving feature in all of its cars.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing forward, it is mandatory in North America to install and activate FSD V12.3.1 and take customers on a short test ride before handing over the car,\u201d Musk\u2019s memo said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-03-25\/musk-orders-tesla-driver-assist-testing-before-all-new-sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> <em>Bloomberg<\/em>. \u201cAlmost no one actually realizes how well (supervised) FSD actually works.
