The plan aims to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/after-destroying-your-livelihood-with-covid-mandates-biden-wants-you-subsidizing-rich-college-grads\/\" title=\"After Destroying Your Livelihood With Covid Mandates, Biden Wants You Subsidizing Rich College Grads\">transfer student loan debt<\/a> to taxpayers for eligible individuals, including those \u2063in hardship.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Vice President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"student loan\">Kamala Harris<\/a> lauded President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s new plan to reduce or cancel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/student-loans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"student loan\">student loan<\/a> debt for roughly 30 million people, calling it a game changer for borrowers and especially those eligible for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-extends-9-billion-more-of-student-debt-relief-to-125000-borrowers\/\" title=\"Biden grants additional B in student debt relief to 125K borrowers.\">public service loan forgiveness programs<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t pay our teachers nearly what they deserve in terms of the value that they give to our society as a whole,\u201d Harris said Monday during a roundtable discussion in Philadelphia. \u201cMany are silently struggling with student loan debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden announced earlier in the day a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2957892\/biden-touts-latest-salvo-student-loans-wisconsin-speech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"new plan\">new plan<\/a> to transfer partial or full student loan balances from borrowers to taxpayers. <\/p>\n<p>To qualify, debt holders must be in one of five groups, those whose balances are greater than what they originally borrowed, those with loans that were taken out decades ago, those whose loans were used to enroll in \u201clow-financial-value programs,\u201d those who are eligible for relief programs but have not applied, and those who are<em> <\/em>experiencing \u201chardship paying back their loans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harris led a roundtable discussion with workers who have individually benefitted from student loan programs, including a teacher, a nurse, and a social worker. One of them, social worker Kelli Gray, said she had a balance of more than $300,000 eliminated in February. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy student debt story is like everyone else\u2019s,\u201d she said. \u201cI knew I wanted a better life for myself and twin daughters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want you to stay in these jobs, doing this work,\u201d Harris said, adding that many public school employees could make more money in the private sector. \u201cWe need you in these jobs doing this work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Public servants received an average of $70,000 in debt relief in the administration\u2019s initial effort, according to the White House.<\/p>\n<p>However, the plan, which involves billions of dollars worth of student loans on the backs of taxpayers, is not without controversy. Republican attorneys general are likely to file lawsuits challenging its legality, and budget hawks say it is counterproductive. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t solve a very real debt problem by issuing more debt,\u201d said Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. \u201cThe president\u2019s previous student loan cancellation plan was expensive, inflationary, poorly targeted, and would have boosted rather than reduced tuitions. This plan similarly misses the mark.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>That previous plan was estimated to cost at least $400 billion but was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1533584\/supreme-court-strikes-down-bidens-costly-student-loan-relief-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ruled illegal\">ruled illegal<\/a> by the Supreme Court. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe president and his administration should abandon these efforts and instead work with Congress on reforms that actually fix the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-reasons-making-taxpayers-pay-off-student-loans-is-a-rotten-idea\/\" title=\"5 Reasons Making Taxpayers Pay Off Student Loans Is A Rotten Idea\">student loan program<\/a> and address the high cost of higher education,\u201d MacGuineas said.<\/p>\n<p>But attendees of the Harris roundtable touted the plan as a way for loanees to buy a house or start a family, saying, \u201cYou shouldn\u2019t have to make a decision whether you serve or be able to pay your bills.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New plans announced today would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-rolls-out-new-student-loan-plan-ignoring-gop-legal-challenges\/\" title=\"Biden introduces fresh student loan initiative despite legal obstacles from GOP\">fully eliminate accrued interest<\/a> for 23 million borrowers, would cancel the full amount of student debt for over 4 million borrowers, and provide more than 10 million borrowers with at least $5,000 in debt relief or more, according to a White House statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour country needs you,\u201d Harris said during the roundtable discussion, \u201cand we are benefitting in profound ways because of the sacrifice and the work you all do every day.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vice President Kamala Harris praised President Joe Biden&#8217;s proposal to alleviate student loan debt for about 30 million individuals, hailing it as transformative, particularly for borrowers eligible for public service loan forgiveness.
