(AP Photo\/Evan Vucci) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To that end, Biden announced a plan that would eliminate student debt for 4 million people, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-rolls-out-new-student-loan-plan-ignoring-gop-legal-challenges\/\" title=\"Biden introduces fresh student loan initiative despite legal obstacles from GOP\">eliminate accrued interest<\/a> for 23 million more, and write off $5,000 or more of debt for an additional 10 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of our reforms, 25,000 people a month nationwide have been receiving letters from me about the debt they had for all those years,\u201d Biden said. \u201cIt\u2019s finally going to be forgiven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president has been trying to make good on a 2020 campaign pledge to cancel at least some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-has-signed-40-executive-orders-and-actions-since-taking-office\/\" title=\"Biden has signed 40 executive orders and actions since taking office\">federal student loans<\/a>, working repeatedly and consistently against the wishes of Congress and the Supreme Court. <\/p>\n<p>Congress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/733199\/senate-votes-to-repeal-biden-student-loan-plan-with-manchin-tester-and-sinema-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"voted to overturn\">voted in 2023 to overturn<\/a> his original $400 billion student loan plan. Biden then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/287447\/biden-vetoes-joint-resolution-against-student-loan-forgiveness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"vetoed it\">vetoed that<\/a>, only to see the Supreme Court rule his plan illegal. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cTens of millions of people\u2019s debt was literally about to get canceled, then some of my Republican friends and elected officials and special interests sued us, and the Supreme Court blocked us,\u201d Biden said to boos from the crowd. \u201cBut that didn\u2019t stop us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has since canceled $144 billion in student loans for 4 million borrowers using a different legal theory and rolled out a plan to reduce future repayments that the Penn Wharton Budget Model <a href=\"https:\/\/budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu\/issues\/2023\/7\/17\/biden-income-driven-repayment-budget-update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estimates<\/a> could cost taxpayers another $475 billion over 10 years. <\/p>\n<p>The student loans push has infuriated Republicans who claim Biden\u2019s moves are illegal and ill-designed, as any unpaid amounts are added to the public debt. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Biden administration\">Biden administration<\/a> is lawlessly ignoring the Supreme Court and Congress by launching another massive student loan bailout program,\u201d Job Creators Network Foundation President Elaine Parker said in a statement obtained by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThe Supreme Court ruled last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-unveil-second-attempt-at-mass-student-loan-cancellation-after-getting-slapped-down-by-the-supreme-court-the-first-time-report\/\" title=\"Biden set to unveil new student loan forgiveness plan after initial setback from Supreme Court: Report\">mass student loan cancellation<\/a> is unconstitutional, but Biden has made it clear that he won\u2019t respect this decision. He is acting as a king, not a president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Parker said Biden is not holding colleges accountable for overcharging students and that his plans amount to \u201cnothing more than a vote-buying exercise heading into election season.\u201d Republican attorneys general have already vowed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2955215\/biden-test-limits-student-loans-younger-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"take action\">take action<\/a> if they think the president has overstepped his authority.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s latest plan is designed to be somewhat more narrowly tailored than the original, focused on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2955215\/biden-test-limits-student-loans-younger-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"five groups of borrowers\">five groups of borrowers<\/a>.
