Graham \u200bemphasizes the need for a federal restriction on abortions\u200c after 15 weeks, citing the importance of protecting the unborn child and rejecting\u2063 the idea of states&#8217; exclusive \u2064rights \u200don the issue.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/lindsey-graham\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lindsey Graham<\/a> (R-SC) is not following former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s lead on abortion, saying on Monday that he still believes a national abortion law should be pursued even if Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-releases-long-awaited-abortion-position-says-policies-should-be-left-to-states\">says<\/a> that states should be the ultimate arbiters on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a> policy.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina Republican, a close ally to Trump, released a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LindseyGrahamSC\/status\/1777340625660125448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> on Monday saying he still wants a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-debate-candidates-split-on-federal-action-on-abortion\/\" title=\"Republican candidates divided on federal intervention in abortion.\">national abortion limit<\/a> after 15 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI respectfully disagree with President Trump\u2019s statement that abortion is a states\u2019 rights issue. <em>Dobbs<\/em> does not require that conclusion legally and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/covid-has-killed-her-hundreds-of-thousands-but-abortion-has-killed-her-tens-of-millions\/\" title=\"COVID Has Killed Her Hundreds of Thousands, But Abortion Has Killed Her Tens of Millions\">pro-life movement<\/a> has always been about the wellbeing of the unborn child \u2013 not geography,\u201d Graham said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe states\u2019 rights only rationale today runs contrary to an American consensus that would limit late-term abortions and will age about as well as the <em>Dred Scott<\/em> decision,\u201d he added. \u201cThe science is clear \u2013 a child at fifteen weeks is well-developed and is capable of feeling pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graham was comparing the 2022 ruling in the <em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/united-states-supreme-court-overturns-roe-v-wade-leaves-abortion-restrictions-to-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overturned<\/a> <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> and returned the issue of abortion to the states, and the 1857 ruling in <em>Dred Scott v. Stanford<\/em> that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/dred-scott-v-sandford#:~:text=In%20this%20ruling%2C%20the%20U.S.,slavery%20from%20a%20Federal%20territory.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">barred<\/a> citizenship to black slaves prior to the Civil War.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LindseyGrahamSC\/status\/1777340625660125448\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a video on Truth Social that states now should be able to decide by voting and legislation on access to abortion.
