Impeachment \u200dproceedings begin soon.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Republicans are upping the pressure on colleagues in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Senate<\/a> ahead of next week\u2019s impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House<\/a> managers in the case will deliver the two articles of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/impeachment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>impeachment<\/a> to the upper chamber on Wednesday, nearly two months since the lower chamber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2853744\/alejandro-mayorkas-impeached\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>impeached<\/a> Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-plan-post-midterms-biden-impeachment-plans\/\" title=\"Republicans Plan Post-Midterms Biden Impeachment Plans\">introduced impeachment articles<\/a> against Mayorkas multiple times before House leadership moved on it, said she was proud to have led the impeachment, as it represented the only way to hold the Biden administration accountable for the \u201cdeadly border invasion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two of Greene\u2019s constituents were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2453451\/gonzales-calls-on-house-to-pass-mtg-impeachment-of-mayorkas-enoughs-enough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>killed<\/a> late last year when a human smuggler running from police crashed a vehicle into the Georgia residents as they were driving across South Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchumer must hold the trial in the senate!\u201d Greene wrote Thursday in a post to X.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>I\u2019m proud to have led the impeachment of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.<\/p>\n<p>Impeaching Biden\u2019s Secretary of Homeland has been the only accountability against the Biden admins deadly border invasion.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer must hold the trial in the senate! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Zc7s19162a\">pic.twitter.com\/Zc7s19162a<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene\ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@RepMTG) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RepMTG\/status\/1775912238252953794?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 4, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) opened the pressure campaign Thursday with an op-ed that called on the Senate to hold a trial as questions remained over whether Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) would table the articles and shut down any further proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe seriousness of the charges should compel the Senate to perform its constitutional duty, conduct a full impeachment trial, convict Secretary Mayorkas, and ultimately remove him from office,\u201d Green wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/senate-responsibility-conduct-mayorkas-impeachment-trial-convict-him\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>op-ed<\/a> for Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Schumer sent his colleagues a letter on Friday that confirmed the Senate would receive the articles from the House on Wednesday when Mayorkas is also scheduled to appear on Capitol Hill for a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CraigCaplan\/status\/1775592727226228927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"pair of congressional hearings\">pair of congressional hearings<\/a> related to the DHS budget. Impeachment proceedings begin in earnest on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease be advised that all Senators will be sworn in as jurors in the trial the day after the articles are presented, and Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray will preside,\u201d Schumer wrote in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.democrats.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/majority_leader_schumer_dear_colleague_on_senates_busy_agenda1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>letter<\/a>. \u201cI remind Senators that your presence next week is essential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The House impeached Mayorkas on charges of refusing to enforce the law and a breach of public trust. More than 8 million non-U.S. citizens have been encountered attempting to enter the United States in the three years since President Joe Biden took office \u2014 the highest figure in any three-year period.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Dale Strong (R-AL) penned an op-ed Friday on why he believed Mayorkas was at fault.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a case of simple policy disagreements,\u201d Strong wrote in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/restoring-america\/opinion-restoring-america\/2953580\/if-the-senate-needs-evidence-of-mayorkas-impeachable-offenses-look-no-further-than-his-abuse-of-parole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>op-ed<\/a> published by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThis is about Mayorkas\u2019 intentional disregard of the laws passed by Congress. It is an affront to the Constitution and the rule of law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayorkas\u2019 mass parole schemes do nothing but incentivize more illegal immigration,\u201d Strong said. \u201cNationwide encounters of inadmissible aliens at ports of entry increased over 100% from fiscal 2022 to fiscal 2023. He knows the consequences of his unlawful actions yet continues to double down on them. \u2026 The Senate must follow through with a thorough trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some Senate Republicans have come out in support of their peers in the House, including Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), who called for a \u201cfull impeachment trial of Sec.
