The chaos during the demonstration\u200d led to calls for the president&#8217;s resignation due to a disagreement over \u200dthe removal of a symbolic &#8220;apartheid wall&#8221; on campus.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local police in California arrested a group of Pomona College students on Friday after they stormed an administration building and refused to leave the president\u2019s office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eighteen students were charged with misdemeanor trespassing and another with obstruction of justice after an anti-Israel demonstration devolved into chaos Friday afternoon, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2024-04-06\/pomona-college-protesters-arrested\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Los Angeles Times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The students charged, as well as dozens of others who took part in the protest, could face suspension, according to a Friday campus <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pomona.edu\/administration\/president\/statements\/posts\/campus-harassment-and-disruption-4524\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">letter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  from college president Gabrielle Starr.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCampus Safety reported that approximately 100-150 protesters were outside the President\u2019s Office and another 30-40 protesters had stormed inside the building and taken over the President\u2019s Office,\u201d the Pomona Police Department said in a statement on Saturday after the arrests, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/losangeles\/news\/protesters-gather-outside-claremont-police-department\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CBS News<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cCommunication was immediately established by School Administration with the protesters, but they refused to leave the building.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Claremont chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine on Saturday called for Starr\u2019s ouster over the arrests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAs a supposed representative of your institution, your conduct has been fascistic in nature and absolutely reprehensible. Should you have any shame for your conduct, you will resign, drop the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/secretary-of-state-antony-blinken-condemns-charges-against-pro-democracy-activists-in-hong-kong\/\" title=\"Secretary Of State Antony Blinken Condemns Charges Against Pro-Democracy Activists in Hong Kong\">charges made<\/a> on students, and revoke their suspensions immediately. Following these acts in this order, students and the public demand for your immediate resignation as president of this institution,\u201d the email template says, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.claremontindependent.com\/post\/update-students-call-for-pomona-college-president-s-resignation-after-20-arrests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Claremont Independent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The protesters gathered to voice dissent over the removal of a 32-foot-long \u201capartheid wall\u201d meant to represent \u201cillegal Israeli Occupation.\u201d College officials had told students Friday that the wall was to be moved from where it had stood outside the Smith Campus Center since it was erected in late March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Officials had offered to move the wall to an area of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/anti-ccp-protests-break-out-worldwide\/\" title=\"Anti-CCP Protests Break Out Worldwide\">campus set<\/a> aside for such displays of protests, but the students resisted. The students retaliated by harassing the college officials, including using racist language, according to Starr\u2019s letter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The students \u201cproceeded to verbally harass staff, even using a sickening, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-hunter-biden-used-anti-black-racial-slurs-in-multiple-messages-to-white-845-per-hour-lawyer\/\" title=\"Report: Hunter Biden Used Anti-Black Racial Slurs In Multiple Messages To \u2018White, 5-Per-Hour Lawyer\u2019\">anti-black racial slur<\/a> in addressing an administrator. This is part of an escalating series of incidents on our campus, which has included persistent harassment of visitors for admission tours,\u201d Starr wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the protest began, dozens of demonstrators stormed Alexander Hall and entered the president\u2019s office. The protesters then occupied the space, refusing Starr\u2019s demands to leave.
