He\u200d has to compensate the agent $755,000, adding to his legal woes following prior convictions. Former reality TV personality Todd Chrisley, serving\u200c time for financial \u2062offenses, has been mandated by\u200b a federal jury to pay a substantial sum for defaming a\u200d Georgia Revenue\u200b agent. His disparaging social media campaign against the \u200dGDOR and its \u200cstaff led to this ruling. This financial penalty of $755,000\u200b compounds Chrisley&#8217;s legal troubles stemming from previous convictions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Former reality TV star Todd Chrisley \u2013 who is already in prison for financial crimes \u2013 was just ordered by a federal jury to pay a Georgia Department of Revenue (GDOR) agent hundreds of thousands of dollars for defamation.<\/p>\n<p>DOR investigator Amy Doherty-Heinze claimed in court documents that Chrisley \u201cbegan a social media campaign against the GDOR and certain of its employees, contending that the investigation was illegal and improperly motivated,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/atlanta\/jury-says-todd-chrisley-defamed-former-ga-revenue-agent-awarded-her-755000-damages\/TLIIPI4BCVHQRHSV52AMMZXO4E\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to documents obtained by WSB-TV<\/a>. Chrisley \u201cbegan attacking\u201d the agent, \u201caccusing her of a multitude of crimes and wrongdoing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, a federal jury determined Chrisley was responsible for libeling and slandering Doherty-Heinze, and ordered him to pay the agent $350,000 in compensatory damages and $170,000 in punitive damages, in addition to attorney\u2019s fees. In total, Chrisley now owes Doherty-Heinze around $755,000.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2022, Chrisley and his wife, Julie, were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/reality-stars-todd-and-julie-chrisley-sentenced-to-prison\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sentenced to prison<\/a> after being convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank fraud, tax fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. In addition, Julie was also convicted on a charge of wire fraud and obstruction of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Eleanor L. Ross of U.S. District Court in Atlanta sentenced Todd to 12 years in prison followed by three years of probation, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/11\/21\/entertainment\/todd-chrisley-julie-chrisley-sentenced\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Ross sentenced Julie to seven years in prison followed by three years of probation. In addition, the couple will have to pay restitution for their crimes, though the exact amount is unknown at this time, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/11\/21\/us\/todd-julie-chrisley-sentencing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Todd Chrisley made a fortune through Chrisley Asset Management, a real estate company he founded in Georgia, The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/reality-bites-the-rise-and-fall-of-the-chrisley-family-empire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. The success of the business combined with Todd\u2019s personality and large family made him a perfect candidate for reality TV, which led to \u201cChrisley Knows Best.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even before the Chrisleys began their reality show in 2014, they had financial problems. In 2012, Todd filed for bankruptcy protection. Explaining the filing, his lawyer <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/chrisley-knows-best-inside-todd-chrisleys-45-million-bankruptcy-case\/#:~:text=After%20a%20large%20business%20investment,have%20been%20fine%2C%20financially.%E2%80%9D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told\u00a0People<\/a>, \u201cHe guaranteed a real estate development loan and it failed. He was on the hook for $30 million. If he hadn\u2019t had that happen, he would have been fine, financially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Justice (DOJ), however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-ndga\/pr\/reality-tv-stars-convicted-fraud-and-tax-evasion?ftag=YHF4eb9d17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a> that the Chrisleys \u2014 prior to their reality show \u2014 \u201cconspired to defraud community banks in the Atlanta area to obtain more than $30 million in personal loans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712418214337000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1nVOA3RcVGwY231IKz2OL1\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>With the help of a business partner, <a href=\"https:\/\/popculture.com\/reality-tv\/news\/todd-chrisley-ex-business-partner-mark-braddock-claims-had-affair\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Braddock<\/a>, the Chrisleys \u201csubmitted false bank statements, audit reports, and personal financial statements to banks to obtain the millions of dollars in fraudulent loans,\u201d the DOJ wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017, the couple\u2019s problems expanded. WSB-TV <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/north-fulton-county\/state-issues-liens-against-reality-star-after-channel-2-investigation\/505362349\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> at the time that the Chrisleys owed nearly $800,000 in taxes to the state of Georgia and had declared their residency on numerous public records before moving to Nashville, Tennessee, in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Todd sued Homebanc Mortgage Corporation, Radar Online <a href=\"https:\/\/radaronline.com\/exclusives\/2019\/08\/todd-chrisley-blamed-business-partner-morgage-forgery-before-indictment-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, alleging a \u201cformer business partner\u201d forged Todd\u2019s name on the mortgage and made some payments on his behalf. Todd also claimed that the same business partner was the reason he had to file for bankruptcy protection in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the Chrisleys were indicted.
