A\u2063 partial settlement was reached with the\u2063 Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty. The changes aim to ensure open access\u200c to all students regardless\u200c of \u2064race, signaling a shift in the \u200cbar\u2019s diversity \u200ccriteria. The Wisconsin State Bar Association is revising its first-year law student clerk internship requirements following \u2062a lawsuit alleging discrimination by a \u200bconservative group. A partial settlement was reached\u2062 with the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty. These adjustments are intended to guarantee equal opportunities\u2063 for all\u200d students irrespective \u2064of race, reflecting a change in the bar&#8217;s diversity standards.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Wisconsin State Bar Association will amend its language for first-year law student clerk internship requirements after it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/lawsuit-filed-against-wisconsin-state-bar-over-discriminatory-diversity-internship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sued last year<\/a> by a conservative group that said the bar was discriminating against students based on race and sexual identity. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The state bar association reached a partial settlement on Thursday with the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, a conservative legal group, that had sued the bar in December over its internship programs and definition of diversity which included race as a factor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDefeating unconstitutional DEI programs has become WILL\u2019s area of expertise, and we are not stopping here,\u201d WILL Associate Counsel Skylar Croy said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/wislawjournal.com\/2024\/04\/04\/state-bar-of-wisconsin-reaches-settlement-in-diversity-lawsuit\/\">statement<\/a>. \u201cWhile we are pleased with this victory, we know the fight is far from over. In fact, this is only the beginning of a movement, and our lawsuit will provide a roadmap for future victories in all 50 states.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/will-law.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/PARTIAL-SETTLEMENT-AGREEMENT-AND-RELEASE-FINAL-fully-executed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">settlement<\/a>, the bar will make clear that its \u201cdiversity clerkship program\u201d is open to all first-year law students at either Marquette University Law School or the University of Wisconsin Law School. The bar will also no longer include a requirement for that clerkship to go to students with \u201cbackgrounds that have been historically excluded from the legal field\u200b\u200b who are in good standing.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">WILL sued the bar on behalf of attorney Daniel Suhr, who celebrated the settlement. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cPremier internship opportunities should be available to students based on merit \u2014 not race,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/wislawjournal.com\/2024\/04\/04\/state-bar-of-wisconsin-reaches-settlement-in-diversity-lawsuit\/\">said<\/a>. \u201cI am proud to partner with WILL to set a strong precedent for the next generation of law students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, the bar will adopt a new definition of \u201cdiversity\u201d saying: \u201c\u2018Diversity\u2019 means including people with differing characteristics, beliefs, experiences, interests, and viewpoints. Diversity promotes an environment in which all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their differences and without regard to stereotypes, and helps to ensure a better understanding and consideration of the needs and viewpoints of others with whom we interact.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The bar\u2019s previous definition of diversity included race, ethnicity, and sexual identity among other factors. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The settlement agreement adds that \u201cDefendants expressly deny all Allegations relating to the Diversity Clerkship Program in the Lawsuit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe settlement clarifies the definition of \u2018diversity\u2019 but makes no changes to the program,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumnews1.com\/wi\/milwaukee\/news\/2024\/04\/05\/wisconsin-diversity-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> Larry J.
