Governor Gavin Newsom of California revealed plans to install 480 surveillance cameras in Oakland to bolster law enforcement efforts. Newsom aims\u200b to empower officers with the \u200bnecessary resources to combat crime \u200ceffectively and ensure accountability among offenders. Cities led by Democrats prioritize surveillance over arrests due\u2062 to \u200dthe challenges\u2063 of apprehending criminals. Governor Gavin\u2063 Newsom of California unveiled a proposal to deploy 480 surveillance cameras in Oakland to strengthen\u2064 law enforcement initiatives. The intention\u2062 is to provide officers with the essential tools to address crime efficiently and enforce accountability \u2062within\u2063 the perpetrator community.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Cities controlled by <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democrats<\/a> have decided that arresting criminals is too hard. It is much easier to turn their cities into surveillance states.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>California<\/a> Gov. Gavin Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/2946230\/newsom-rolls-out-surveillance-plan-to-crack-down-on-oakland-crime-with-nearly-500-cameras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"announced\">announced<\/a> that 480 surveillance cameras would be installed in and around Oakland. According to Newsom, \u201cwe\u2019re equipping law enforcement with the tools they need to effectively combat criminal activity and hold perpetrators accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>California Gov. Gavin Newsom. (AP Photo \/ Damian Dovarganes)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That\u2019s all great and swell, but ultimately, this barely moves the needle. Oakland\u2019s problem hasn\u2019t been law enforcement, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/2710496\/alameda-county-da-pamela-price-has-earned-a-recall-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"think\">prosecution<\/a>. With a district attorney who doesn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/2577199\/yes-weak-sentences-for-violent-criminals-make-crime-worse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"think\">think<\/a> her job performance affects crime and who thinks that violent criminals should get no jail time for their crimes, you can catch as many criminals as you want in Oakland, on camera or otherwise. You just can\u2019t keep them behind bars.<\/p>\n<p>So what will Newsom achieve by putting up a bunch of cameras? Those cameras will identify criminals that Oakland doesn\u2019t want to prosecute, as evidenced by Oakland\u2019s unwillingness to vigorously prosecute any of its criminals. It would appear that Oakland is going to transform into a surveillance state with crime as the excuse, when the city\u2019s top law enforcement official doesn\u2019t care about crime in the first place.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The only thing that could make this more representative of California\u2019s (lack of) competence would be if each camera cost $1 million and didn\u2019t function at night because they run on solar power.<\/p>\n<p>Oakland doesn\u2019t need cameras. Oakland needs leaders who think crime is bad and criminals belong in jail. So long as it doesn\u2019t have those people, those cameras won\u2019t help anyone do anything but get instant replays of crimes the city doesn\u2019t care to prosecute. That is, if California actually ensures those cameras can function.
