Rowling. Despite \u200dhis \u200cadvocacy, citizens \u200bhave reported Yousaf for hate\u200d speech, with thousands of complaints lodged soon after the law&#8217;s enactment. While police\u200d found no criminality in his past comments, many remain concerned about the law&#8217;s implications. Scottish First Minister \u200bHumza Yousaf, a vocal advocate for Scotland&#8217;s new hate crime legislation, has faced backlash\u200c alongside author\u200b J.K. Rowling. Following the law&#8217;s implementation, citizens reported Yousaf for alleged hate speech, triggering thousands of complaints. Despite police finding \u200dno criminality in his previous remarks, concerns persist regarding the\u200d broader implications of the legislation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Scottish First Minister Humza Yousaf is a vocal proponent of his nation\u2019s new hate crime law \u2014 which has placed \u201cHarry Potter\u201d author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/jk-rowling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">J.K. Rowling<\/a> in the crosshairs \u2014 but that didn\u2019t stop citizens from using its provisions to report him for hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>According to the BBC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-68721208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thousands of complaints<\/a> had been made under the new law\u2019s provisions \u2014 namely one aimed to stop people from \u201cstirring up hatred\u201d based on certain protected classes \u2014 within hours of it taking effect. They also confirmed that the new law would not be implemented retroactively.<\/p>\n<p>Community Safety Siobhian Brown weighed in on the complaints that overwhelmed police in the early hours of the law\u2019s implementation, worrying that a good portion of them could be classified as \u201cfake and vexatious.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown blamed \u201cmisinformation\u201d for the influx, but said that police were equipped to deal with the situation.
