Alaska Air Group, the airline&#8217;s parent company,\u200d confirmed \u2064this settlement in a recently filed statement\u2062 with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Boeing \u2063provided Alaska\u200c Airlines with $160 million in compensation for losses resulting\u200d from the grounding of 737 Max 9 aircraft after\u2063 a fuselage\u200d incident\u200d in January. This agreement was verified\u2064 by Alaska \u2064Air Group, the airline&#8217;s parent company, in a statement recently submitted to \u200dthe Securities and Exchange Commission.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/boeing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Boeing\">Boeing<\/a> has paid $160 million to Alaska Airlines to compensate for profits lost in the grounding of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/boeing-737-max\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"737 Max 9\">737 Max 9<\/a> planes following the January <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2738480\/alaska-airlines-flight-makes-emergency-return-to-portland-after-losing-window\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"panel blowout\">panel blowout<\/a> on the fuselage of an Alaska Airlines jet.   <\/p>\n<p>The airline\u2019s parent company, Alaska Air Group, said Thursday in a <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.alaskaair.com\/static-files\/15cad0de-722f-479f-99ab-2a265213ede8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>statement<\/a> filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it had \u201creceived initial compensation from Boeing to address the financial damages incurred as a result of Flight 1282 and the 737-9 MAX groundings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company claimed that as a result of the door plug blowout, which occurred shortly after the Alaska Airlines flight departed Portland, Oregon, on Jan. 5, it lost $160 million in first-quarter pretax profits. <\/p>\n<p>The filing also showed that had the Federal Aviation Administration not grounded the 737 Max 9 jets, which extended into February, the company\u2019s adjusted pretax profits would have improved by 80%. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we did experience some book away following the accident and 737-9 MAX grounding, February and March both finished above our original pre-grounding expectations due to these core improvements,\u201d Alaska Air Group said. <\/p>\n<p>Following Boeing\u2019s recent manufacturing problems, there have been delays in plane deliveries for airlines, including Alaska Airlines, which does not expect to receive all the 47 planned deliveries from Boeing over the next two years, <em>Reuters<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/alaska-air-says-boeing-paid-160-mln-compensation-airline-2024-04-04\/\" title=\"reported\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Airbus sales have spiked at the beginning of 2024, with the European planemaker delivering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbus.com\/en\/products-services\/commercial-aircraft\/market\/orders-and-deliveries\">79 planes<\/a> in the first two months of the year, a blow to its primary rival Boeing.  <\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Boeing for comment. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" title=\"CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Boeing\u2019s production delays have affected other airlines, causing United to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/2949245\/united-pilots-pressured-take-unpaid-leave-after-boeing-production-delays\/\" title=\"ask pilots\">ask pilots<\/a> last week to take unpaid leave starting in May as they won\u2019t be able to fly as many hours. <\/p>\n<p>Boeing and U.S. airlines are expected to release their first-quarter results later in April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/04\/04\/boeing-pays-alaska-airlines-160-million-for-737-max-9-grounding.html\">according<\/a> to CNBC.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Boeing has recently reimbursed Alaska Airlines $160 million to cover lost profits due to the 737 Max 9 groundings caused by a fuselage incident in January.
