In a bizarre response, it even okayed serving cheese with rat bites. In a peculiar incident, it sanctioned serving cheese with rat \u2062bites.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>An artificial intelligence chatbot introduced on New York City\u2019s government website last year to help small business owners will remain in place despite criticism that it advised people to break numerous laws.<\/p>\n<p>NYC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/chat.nyc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MyCity Chatbot<\/a> was launched in October as a \u201cone-stop-shop\u201d to help small business owners navigate the Big Apple\u2019s plethora of laws and regulations, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/new-york-city-chatbot-misinformation-6ebc71db5b770b9969c906a7ee4fae21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. A report from <a href=\"https:\/\/themarkup.org\/news\/2024\/03\/29\/nycs-ai-chatbot-tells-businesses-to-break-the-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Markup<\/a> last week, however, revealed that the AI tool was advising that it was fine for small businesses to break multiple laws.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most troubling responses from the chatbot included telling business owners that they can take a cut of their workers\u2019 tips, keep funeral home pricing secret, and operate a store that doesn\u2019t accept cash for payments. All of those practices are prohibited by city, state, or federal laws.<\/p>\n<p>MyCity Chatbot gave an even more bizarre response to the AP after it was asked if a restaurant could serve customers cheese that had been nibbled on by rats. \u201cYes, you can still serve the cheese to customers if it has rat bites,\u201d the chatbot answered, adding that the restaurant should consider \u201cthe extent of the damage caused by the rat\u201d and \u201cinform customers about the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the chatbot includes a Disclaimer stating \u201cits responses may sometimes be inaccurate or incomplete\u201d and tells users not to take \u201cits responses as legal or professional advice,\u201d some tech experts have expressed concern that the AI technology was rolled out prematurely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re rolling out software that is unproven without oversight. It\u2019s clear they have no intention of doing what\u2019s responsible,\u201d Julia Stoyanovich, a computer science professor and the director of the Center for Responsible AI at New York University, told the AP.<\/p>\n<p>New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams said in a press conference on Tuesday that allowing users to find flaws in the AI tech was a part of the process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone that knows technology knows this is how it\u2019s done,\u201d Adams said. \u201cOnly those who are fearful sit down and say, \u2018Oh, it is not working the way we want, now we have to run away from it all together.\u2019 I don\u2019t live that way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712342031524000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2_WxGpu29CMDgz8ePsewTi\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Stoyanovich responded to Adams\u2019 comments, telling the AP that his approach is \u201creckless and irresponsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for Microsoft, which is powering NYC\u2019s chatbot, said it was working with city employees \u201cto improve the service and ensure the outputs are accurate and grounded on the city\u2019s official documentation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New York City has also introduced AI technology to help detect firearms in the subway as Adams seeks to cut down on subway violence.
