The recent $20\u200c hourly minimum wage, a hike from $16,\u2062 is now in effect, influencing the \u200drecruitment difficulties faced by \u2062educational organizations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"California\">California<\/a>\u2018s increased minimum wage for fast-food workers at companies with more than 60 locations is causing various downstream concerns, one of which is <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/labor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"labor\">labor<\/a> competition with schools.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/2947025\/california-workers-hour-cuts-minimum-wage-going-into-effect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"new\">new<\/a> $20 minimum wage for fast-food workers went into effect on Monday and raises the floor for wages up $4 per hour from the regular $16 minimum wage for other industries in the state. The <em>Associated Press<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/california-fast-food-minimum-wage-school-workers-eecf616b677c3bac087b3a6940137817\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"reports\">reported<\/a> that the boost in wages for fast-food workers is another problem for school districts, which are having a difficult time hiring cafeteria workers.<\/p>\n<p>The Sacramento City Unified School District has made several pay increases in anticipation of the law, bringing pay for food service workers in line with the $20 per hour that fast-food workers get beginning on July 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking not only at competing with districts and comparing with districts. We\u2019re also looking at fast-food places,\u201d said Cancy McArn, chief human resources officer for the district.<\/p>\n<p>Another factor necessitating school districts to staff up and compete with fast-food chains is the state\u2019s universal school lunch law, which began with the 2022-2023 school year.
