The research tracked over\u2062 2700 individuals starting at \u2063age 11, showing a decrease in discontentment with gender over \u2063time. While critics highlight concerns about current medical interventions, the study underscores the transient nature of gender confusion in many \u200bteens.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Even as more and more states \u2014 and entire countries \u2014 take a step back from prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones with relative abandon, a landmark 15-year study appears to confirm that \u201cgender-confused\u201d children and teens are more likely than not to \u201cgrow out of\u201d their feelings of dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/health\/article-13263725\/trans-kids-change-sex-adults-study.html?ns_mchannel=rss&#038;ns_campaign=1490&#038;ito=social-twitter_mailonline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Netherlands-based study<\/a> included more than 2700 children beginning at age 11. They were asked every three years \u2014 into their mid-twenties\u2014to describe their feelings about their own gender. While just over one in ten (11%) reported some degree of \u201cnon-contentedness\u201d with their gender at some point during the study, by age 25, that number had dropped to one-in-25 (4%).<\/p>\n<p>The study, titled the Tracking Adolescent\u2019s Individual Lives Survey, began in 2001 and asked every participant to respond to this statement: \u201cI wish to be of the opposite sex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They were asked to respond to that same statement every two to three years over the course of the 15-year study, and each time, they were given an array of choices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>0-Not True<\/li>\n<li>1-Somewhat or Sometimes True<\/li>\n<li>2-Very True or Often True<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the researchers did acknowledge some limitations to the study \u2014 namely that the participants were taken from the general population and had not necessarily been diagnosed with gender dysphoria \u2014 they still concluded that it lent weight to the idea that discontentment with gender was more common among teens than once they become adults.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe results of the current study might help adolescents to realize that it is normal to have some doubts about one\u2019s identity and one\u2019s gender identity during this age period and that this is also relatively common,\u201d the researchers, working from the University of Groningen, concluded.<\/p>\n<p>Critics of radical gender theory were quick to point out that all the study really did was confirm what they had believed from the start: medical intervention for what is likely a phase and almost certainly has an emotional or psychological cause harms more children than it could ever help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere you have it.
