Eric Sorensen (D., Ill.) is praising an LGBT clinic in his district that is raising funds to administer sex change drugs to minors, applauding the nonprofit for providing vital &#8220;health care&#8221; that helps his district &#8220;thrive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen has fiercely defended transgender treatments for minors, even as those treatments have faced increasing scrutiny from medical experts across the United States and around the globe. Sorensen recently visited the Project of the Quad Cities, where he promoted the clinic\u2019s work on medically transitioning children who identify as transgender.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic, where Sorensen previously served as a board member, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/news-room\/the-project-launches-fundraising-campaign-to-support-gender-affirming-care-for-youthnbsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">says<\/a> puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones are &#8220;lifesaving&#8221; and &#8220;essential&#8221; to the health and well-being of minors who identify as transgender. In July 2023, the nonprofit clinic began soliciting donations to raise $100,000 so it could begin providing sex change drugs to children.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic&#8217;s health care operations director, Andy Rowe, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/health\/rising-malpractice-premiums-push-small-clinics-away-from-gender-affirming-care-for-minors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PBS<\/a> in January that, while the program has faced setbacks in getting the project off the ground, it has the necessary staff in place and nearly enough money to get the program up and running.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Project of The Quad Cities is a friend in helping our LGBTQ+ neighbors in #IL17 thrive,&#8221; Sorensen <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepEricSorensen\/status\/1772698030346584429?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">remarked<\/a> on social media after his visit to the clinic last week. &#8220;I was able to understand what the needs were in the Quad-Cities and see the services that The Project gives,&#8221; he added in comments to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/qctimes.com\/news\/local\/government-politics\/eric-sorensen-project-quad-cities-moline\/article_b8efe898-eabe-11ee-bc7b-4b212fee62f1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quad-City Times<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen&#8217;s praise for the clinic comes as medical experts both in the United States and abroad issue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/company\/newsroom\/gender-dysphoria-in-young-people-is-rising-and-so-is-professional-disagreement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">warnings<\/a> about the risks of medically transitioning minors who believe they are transgender.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Food and Drug Administration <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/aapnews\/news\/20636\/Risk-of-pseudotumor-cerebri-added-to-labeling-for?autologincheck=redirected\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a warning<\/a> in July 2022 for gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonists, commonly used off-label as puberty blockers, citing medical risks such as brain swelling among youth who take them. Infertility is also a risk associated with these drugs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC6626312\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">research<\/a> shows.<\/p>\n<p>England\u2019s National Health Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/publication\/clinical-policy-puberty-suppressing-hormones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> updated policy guidance earlier this month declaring those under 18 can only access puberty suppressing hormones if they are part of a clinical research trial. The NHS noted that there isn&#8217;t enough evidence to determine the safety or efficacy of such treatments. In the United States, over two dozen states have enacted laws banning the provision of these drugs for patients under 18.<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen, a freshman Democrat facing a contested reelection bid this year in Illinois\u2019 17th Congressional District, highlighted the need to fund places like the Project of the Quad Cities during his visit, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourquadcities.com\/news\/local-news\/sorensen-tours-the-project-in-moline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local news<\/a> in Rock Island, Illinois. Sorensen previously worked on the board of directors at both the Project of the Quad Cities and Clock, Inc., a group the Project refers patients to for &#8220;chest binders,&#8221; &#8220;voice lessons,&#8221; and workshops on &#8220;youth drag king &#038; queen involvement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The clinic\u2019s location near the Illinois border, Sorensen says, is an asset for minors who believe they\u2019re transgender.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You can come across the border into the state of Illinois and get the health care that you need,&#8221; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourquadcities.com\/news\/local-news\/sorensen-tours-the-project-in-moline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> during his March 25 visit to the Project. The clinic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/gac-for-youth\">dubs itself<\/a> a &#8220;haven along the Mississippi,&#8221; surrounded by other Midwestern states where trans youths\u2019 &#8220;right to lifesaving care has been stripped away.&#8221; Sorensen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.c-span.org\/video\/?528508-4\/rep-eric-sorensen-federal-spending-news-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">argued on C-SPAN<\/a> last year that people &#8220;have to understand that the understanding of a child as they\u2019re growing into an adult doesn\u2019t happen at this arbitrary 18-year mark. It happens as a youngster.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the Project waits to obtain enough funding to provide puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors, it already provides several gender transition-related services to children as young as 12. These include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/live\/?ref=watch_permalink&#038;v=2410120202591374\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free counseling<\/a> and education for trans and gay youth on topics such as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/the-village-project\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deconstructing Gender,<\/a>&#8221; proper pronoun usage<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/the-village-project\">,<\/a> &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/3533358293606287?ref=newsfeed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the basics of LGBTQ Vocabulary,<\/a>&#8221; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/events\/test-event-5l7nt-jpf4b-479sh-ny2wt-695t4-5smg4-59mld-3e77k-9c75p-9wbar-3m7n6-xytj2-xt28y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">safe<\/a> sex and drug use.<\/p>\n<p>One of the counseling services provided for kids as young as 12 years old is a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/events\/gender-spectrum-support-group-for-youth-aw27t-8lpp6-k67a6-wpglh-zcf2k-x4k5p-8gsr8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gender Spectrum Support Group<\/a>,&#8221; which seeks to discuss, among other things, intimate relationships in which its youth patients may be engaged. The Project\u2019s website also links to a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/tpqc-my.sharepoint.com\/personal\/tyler_tpqc_org\/_layouts\/15\/onedrive.aspx?id=%2Fpersonal%2Ftyler%5Ftpqc%5Forg%2FDocuments%2FSafer%20Sex%20Guide%2Epdf&#038;parent=%2Fpersonal%2Ftyler%5Ftpqc%5Forg%2FDocuments&#038;ga=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Safer Sex Guide<\/a>&#8221; resource that is intended for &#8220;everyone\u2014no matter your age&#8221; and explores topics such as how to safely use drugs during sex and what to do if blood becomes present during intercourse. It also details various sexual fetishes, including &#8220;golden showers,&#8221; &#8220;fisting,&#8221; and &#8220;shit play.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Project\u2019s lead clinician and case manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theprojectqc\/posts\/pfbid0MXPjtBksCisN8ysPDSvL9Qj4rXjaxKvwosRqtA87VBJMkaVudzjmYFvBhQck3ZPNl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clyde A. Lipp,<\/a> was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/2013\/05\/29\/sinnissippi-centers-official-facing-battery-charge\/aay5pi8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a> in 2013 during a public indecency sting after reportedly attempting to solicit an undercover officer for sex in Blackhawk Springs East Forest Preserve, located in Rockford, Illinois. At the time, Lipp was the longtime director of family services at Sinnissippi Centers in Dixon and was reportedly placed on leave while he faced a battery charge resulting from the sting. The outcome of the case is unknown, and Lipp did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>According to Lipp\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpqc.org\/counseling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bio<\/a> on the Project of the Quad Cities\u2019s website, Lipp works &#8220;with children, adolescents and adults impacted by depression, anxiety, relationship issues, divorce, trauma, HIV, gender issues, attachment, and LGBT-QIA issues.&#8221;\t<\/p>\n<p>Sorensen, who is part of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/freshman-dem-battleground-district-says-no-regrets-hosting-drag-events-kids\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> he has no regrets about hosting drag shows for kids during his time with the Project and Clock, Inc., after spending years promoting them as a board director.<\/p>\n<p>The Illinois Democrat, who frequently <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/this-illinois-democrat-cant-stop-tweeting-about-how-dumb-his-constituents-are\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">insults<\/a> the intelligence of his constituents, will face Republican newcomer and former circuit court judge Joe McGraw in the November election for Illinois\u2019s 17th Congressional District.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Illinois Representative Eric Sorensen (D.) commends an LGBT clinic in his district that seeks to offer sex-change drugs to minors.
