Peltz proposed a new leadership succession\u2064 plan and criticized Disney&#8217;s streaming strategy. Despite \u2064challenges like labor\u200b strikes and controversies, Iger helped navigate the\u200c company. Peltz&#8217;s \u200dcompany, Trian Fund Management, expressed concerns about Disney&#8217;s direction. Peltz argued for a plan of succession in leadership, better streaming targets to be more \u201cNetflix-like,\u201d and called many of Disney\u2019s goals \u201camorphous and the execution poor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Iger had returned to the company in late 2022 while the company went through numerous challenges, including Hollywood labor strikes, battles with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1512164629836931085\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"leaked tapes\">leaked tapes<\/a> of Disney officials bragging about their efforts to push socially progressive messaging into films and television programming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite its many advantages, Disney has lost its way,\u201d Peltz\u2019s company, Trian Fund Management, said in its letter to Disney shareholders last fall.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Peltz stated last month that he will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/activist-investor-nelson-peltz-vote-donald-trump-ft-reports-2024-03-19\/\" title=\"\" probably vote>\u201cprobably\u201d vote<\/a> for the former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Donald Trump\">Donald Trump<\/a>. He has expressed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-13218939\/nelson-peltz-trump-migrant-crisis-biden.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"concerns\">concerns<\/a> about President Joe Biden\u2019s mental fitness and the immigration crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border.<\/p>\n<p>Disney tried to squash Peltz\u2019s efforts to be added to the board by suggesting that he did not bring media expertise or \u201cstrategic ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In battling Peltz\u2019s effort to change the board, the company created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2024-03-11\/disney-slams-proxy-fight-rival-nelson-peltz-in-political-styled-ad\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"a political-style campaign advertisement\">a political-style campaign advertisement<\/a> in March before the April 3 meeting to urge shareholders against Peltz and to check out their Vote Disney website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDisney could suffer the same fate as other great companies that Peltz has previously infiltrated, such as G.E. and DuPont. Nelson Peltz has a long history of attacking companies to the ultimate detriment of shareholder value,\u201d the ad\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/votedisney.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/disruptive.mp4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"announcer ominously said\">announcer ominously said<\/a> in the Vote Disney campaign ad.
