Biden&#8217;s support among \u2063progressives, particularly younger voters, has waned, prompting \u200befforts \u200cto solidify his base. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a> Wednesday to make the case for his healthcare policies heading into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024<\/a> general election.<\/p>\n<p>The president has slid among progressives since entering office, especially voters under the age of 35, and Biden\u2019s reelection effort is working double time to shore up his winning 2020 electoral coalition before November.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders spoke ahead of the president and made the case that, \u201cfinally,\u201d because of Biden, the U.S. is \u201ccatching up\u201d to other Western nations in expanding healthcare access for all Americans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite all the political wealth and political power of the pharmaceutical companies,\u201d he told the crowd in his opening remarks. \u201cDespite all that, the Biden administration and Democrats in Congress are beginning to make some progress.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sanders specifically lifted up Biden\u2019s efforts to lower prescription drug prices, which White House officials say will be reversed if former President Donald Trump wins the 2024 election and Republicans pick up seats in Congress. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an issue we must \u2014\u00a0must \u2014\u00a0get a handle on,\u201d he continued, adding that it is only possible to do so by \u201cworking together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Upon taking the stage, Biden thanked Sanders for \u201cleading the way\u201d on healthcare reform and helping move legislation through Congress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBernie said it. I was listening in the background, Bernie, you and I\u2019ve been fighting this for 25 years,\u201d the president stated. \u201cFinally, finally, we beat Big Pharma, and I wouldn\u2019t have done it without Bernie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He additionally attacked Trump for declaring his desire to roll back Biden\u2019s Medicare initiatives and taking credit for the <em>Dobbs <\/em>decision that ended national abortion protections included in <em>Roe v. Wade.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s remarks appear to be part of an effort to shift the conversation toward healthcare and away from his immigration policies, which Trump has campaigned heavily on this week.<\/p>\n<p>The president appeared in North Carolina last week at a separate healthcare event alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of people lying in bed at night, staring at the ceiling, literally wondering, \u2018What will happen if my spouse gets cancer\u00a0or my child gets seriously ill? Will I have enough insurance? Can we afford the medical bills? Will we have to sell the house?
