Whitmer rebuked Trump&#8217;s stance on border security and blamed him for obstructing potential immigration reforms. Trump labeled the proposed border legislation as the &#8220;Stupid Bill,&#8221; demanding comprehensive border security measures.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer slammed former President Donald Trump after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/every-state-is-now-a-border-state-trump-visits-michigan-to-address-illegal-immigrants-alleged-murder-of-25-year-old-woman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">visited<\/a> her state on Tuesday to address the murder of 25-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/once-deported-illegal-immigrant-charged-with-murder-in-shooting-death-of-25-year-old-michigan-woman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ruby Garcia<\/a>, who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/audio\/podcasts\/the-source-with-kaitlan-collins\/episodes\/7d9f7e52-f162-11ee-8d4d-b38a0f638880\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a> with host Kaitlan Collins Tuesday night to discuss a range of issues, including Trump\u2019s comments on illegal immigration. The former president spoke at a campaign event with law enforcement in Grand Rapids on Tuesday afternoon, where he warned that the ongoing border crisis under President Joe Biden has turned \u201cevery state\u201d into \u201ca border state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe former president was in Grand Rapids today, and he was capitalizing on a horrible tragedy that happened here,\u201d Whitmer said. \u201cThere is a family that is grieving the loss of Ruby Garcia, and she was a real person with a real story. And it\u2019s a horrible story that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of that being said, [Trump] came in to perpetrate the continued storyline that he had done everything to keep us safe, which is boloney,\u201d Whitmer continued. \u201cWe know that under the Trump administration, he actually called me, the governor of Michigan, to ask that we send the National Guard to help with surveillance on the southern border, and we helped him out because he couldn\u2019t get it done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan governor also blamed Trump for Congress failing to pass legislation containing certain border and immigration reforms, which Biden had requested be signed into law before he took further action to address the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s also the reason that the negotiation in Washington, D.C., didn\u2019t come to fruition. He torpedoed a deal that would\u2019ve had the strongest border security in decades in this country that President Biden put on the table. He told Republicans to walk away and they did,\u201d Whitmer said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-brands-bipartisan-border-deal-the-stupid-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">branded<\/a> the border legislation the \u201cStupid Bill\u201d and said Republicans shouldn\u2019t vote for it \u201cunless we get EVERYTHING needed to shut down the INVASION of Millions &#038; Millions of people, many from parts unknown, into our once great, but soon to be great again, Country!\u201d GOP leaders in the House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-republicans-shoot-down-senate-border-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opposed<\/a> the bill, arguing that \u201cit fails in every policy area needed to secure our border and would actually incentivize more illegal immigration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his Tuesday speech in Michigan, Trump called Whitmer \u201ca terrible governor,\u201d who along with Biden, is \u201cstealing your money to give free housing to illegals and then asking you to quarter these people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1712234347815000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1G-VkjVO0p4qoEkiCI9cqF\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Whitmer responded to Trump\u2019s criticism, telling Collins that \u201cthose talking points don\u2019t matter a whole lot to people every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMichiganders are hardworking people. They want leaders who see what they\u2019re struggling with and work to solve those problems, and that\u2019s exactly what I will continue to stay focused on, and I know that\u2019s what President Biden will continue to stay focused on,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Republican leaders in Michigan have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/michigan-republicans-sound-alarm-on-state-program-potentially-giving-illegal-immigrants-up-to-500-per-month-in-rental-assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised concerns<\/a> about a new \u201cMichigan Newcomer Rental Subsidy Program\u201d established by the Whitmer administration that hands out up to $500 a month to refugees and migrants. The GOP lawmakers said the program could be helping people who entered the country illegally pay for housing in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGretchen Whitmer\u2019s rent subsidy program makes handouts available to illegals who were caught in the country and then frantically claimed asylum to avoid deportation,\u201d Michigan House Republican Leader Matt Hall told The Daily Wire last week. \u201cThe Whitmer administration must come clean about this dubious program to the taxpayers who are paying for it.
