The scripted interview took place on March 31, 2021, \u200cjust two months\u200b into Biden&#8217;s presidency. Steele described the experience as highly \u200bcontrolled, with strict instructions on what to ask and how\u2062 to \u200cask, leaving no room for follow-up questions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Ex-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/espn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>ESPN<\/a> anchor Sage Steele revealed that an interview she conducted with President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> had been scripted \u201cto the word\u201d and that she was told not to deviate from her script at all during the segment.<\/p>\n<p>The interview in question happened on March 31, 2021, approximately two months after the president began his term in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>White House<\/a>. In reflecting on her interview, Steele described it as \u201can interesting experience in its own right\u201d because of how scripted it was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the word, like, every single question was scripted, gone over dozens of times by many executives, editors and executives,\u201d Steele said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/former-espn-host-says-biden-interview-scripted-network-execs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>in an interview<\/a> with Fox News Digital. \u201cAbsolutely. I was on script and was told not to deviate. It was very much \u2018This is what you will ask. This is how you will say it. No follow-ups, no follow-ups. Next.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Steele added that her interview with Biden had gone up to \u201cthe fourth floor,\u201d referring to where ESPN\u2019s president and top executives worked and made decisions.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-HhUJ2OGvOc?si=YqIJJ5wJLTfihLO_\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p>The former ESPN anchor also said she thought it was \u201cheartbreaking\u201d for the president from a humanitarian perspective, questioning why the people who care for Biden would allow him to \u201cget to this point.\u201d The comment comes after a report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/robert-k-hur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">special counsel Robert Hur<\/a> described Biden as a \u201cwell-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/735465\/sage-steele-leaving-espn-after-16-years-to-so-she-can-speak-more-freely\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Steele left ESPN in August<\/a> so that she could \u201cexercise my first amendment rights more freely.\u201d Her departure follows being suspended by the network in October 2021 over comments she made regarding former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/barack-obama\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barack Obama<\/a> and the network\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">COVID-19<\/a> vaccine mandate. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since leaving ESPN, Steele has launched <em>The Sage Steele Show<\/em>, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2942290\/bill-maher-launching-podcast-network-with-hosts-sage-steele-billy-corgan-and-fred-durst\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the first podcast on comedian Bill Maher\u2019s new podcast network<\/a>.
