In 2021, ex-ESPN host Sage Steele divulged \u200ddetails about \u2064her controlled interview \u200dwith\u200c President Biden, orchestrated by ESPN executives. Addressing sports during the pandemic, the interview \u200dhighlighted Biden&#8217;s vaccination advocacy. Steele felt restricted by the \u200bscripted nature of the interaction and questioned if\u2063 the White House had prior knowledge of the interview questions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Former ESPN anchor Sage Steele opened up about an interview she conducted with President Joe Biden while working for the network in 2021, telling Fox News that her bosses made sure she would follow \u201cevery word\u201d of the script during her exchange with the commander-in-chief.<\/p>\n<p>Steele, who left ESPN after criticizing its COVID vaccine mandate, said her headline-making interview with Biden in March 2021 was carefully planned out by the network\u2019s executives, and she was told \u201cnot to deviate\u201d from the written questions. The interview focused on sports returning to normalcy following months of COVID lockdowns, along with athletes and fans being hesitant to get the COVID shot, Fox News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/former-espn-host-says-biden-interview-scripted-network-execs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Biden repeatedly admonished Americans to \u201cfollow the science\u201d and get vaccinated during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was an interesting experience in its own right because it was so structured,\u201d Steele said. \u201cAnd I was told, \u2018You will say every word that we write out, you will not deviate from the script and go.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single question was scripted, gone over dozens of times by many editors and executives. Absolutely. I was on script and was told not to deviate,\u201d Steele added. \u201cIt was very much \u2018This is what you will ask. This is how you will say it. No follow-ups, no follow-ups. Next.\u2019 \u2026 This went up to the fourth floor, as we said, where all the bosses, the top executives, the decision makers are, the president of our company, the CEO, where they all worked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The interview made headlines when Biden came out in support of the MLB All-Star Game boycott of Atlanta after Republicans in Georgia passed a voter ID law. The president claimed the Georgia law \u201cis Jim Crow on steroids\u201d and \u201cis all about keeping working folks and ordinary folks that I grew up with from being able to vote.\u201d Despite Biden and other Democrats slamming the new voter law, early voting in 2022 in the state was at a record high, and Georgia voter turnout was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ajc.com\/politics\/voter-turnout-in-georgia-leads-the-south\/KU4VGL6WLVEYNDNKUI5DVFLOIA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">largest<\/a> in the South during the midterms.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Steele told Fox News that she wasn\u2019t sure if ESPN sent the questions to the White House before the interview, and said her exchange with the then-78-year-old president was \u201cheartbreaking\u201d considering his mental acuity. The former ESPN host told Bill Maher last fall that Biden didn\u2019t appear to know what was going on just before he sat down with Steele for the interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to chitchat waiting for us to start rolling,\u201d Steele said, adding, \u201cOf course he has someone next to him, and they keep a black, like, curtain over the lens of the camera, so you can\u2019t see him until the last second, but you can hear, and we\u2019re chitchatting\u2026 So I can hear him, and he goes, \u2018What is this for?\u2019\u2026 And he\u2019s, like, \u2018Who am I talking to? Wait \u2014 what\u2019s her name?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Steele sued ESPN and parent company Disney in 2022, alleging the network retaliated against her for making negative comments about COVID vaccine mandates and former President Barack Obama.
