Buttigieg\u200c stressed the industry&#8217;s\u2062 undeniable shift\u2063 towards EVs during an interview on \u2062Fox News.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Transportation Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-buttigieg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pete Buttigieg<\/a> insisted Tuesday that the automobile industry is moving toward a future of selling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>electric vehicles<\/a> exclusively despite dipping sales.<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg was asked about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/teslas-first-quarter-deliveries-miss-expectations-2024-04-02\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the recent dip in Tesla\u2019s quarterly sales<\/a>, marking the first time for the electric automaker in its sales history. In response, Buttigieg argued that part of this dip stems from a growing number of competitors that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Tesla<\/a> now faces in the electric vehicle market, including Stellantis and General Motors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet\u2019s be clear that the automotive sector is moving towards EVs, and we can\u2019t pretend otherwise,\u201d Buttigieg said on Fox News\u2019s <em>America Reports<\/em>. \u201cSometimes when these debates happen, I feel like it\u2019s the early 2000s and I\u2019m talking to some people who think that we just have landline phones forever. The reality is that the automotive sector is moving towards EVs, and the U.S. can either fall behind China or we can claim the lead. President Biden wants to make sure that those EVs are made in America, especially again as more Americans choose EVs every single year than the year before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg also pushed back against the idea that consumers are not ready to part with gasoline vehicles in order to purchase an electric vehicle. He pointed to how there is a low number of people who choose to go back to their gas-powered vehicle after making the switch to an EV. <\/p>\n<p>The secretary admitted that electric vehicles are \u201cnot for everybody\u201d and that the market would not shift overnight but stressed that it is important for the United States to compete with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>China<\/a> in the electric vehicle market to not let the overseas country take the lead.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Buttigieg\u2019s comments come after the Biden administration announced last month that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2929558\/biden-administration-scales-back-electric-vehicle-targets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>it would impose lower auto tailpipe emissions requirements through 2029<\/a> and would not require as many pure\u00a0electric vehicles\u00a0to be sold. The administration\u2019s scaleback has taken place against the backdrop of the 2024 elections. It has also received pushback from Republican lawmakers over its emphasis on electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Amid the growing number of automakers producing electric vehicles, one of the major companies that will not delve into the market is Apple, which announced that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2892443\/apple-to-end-pursuit-of-developing-electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>it was scrapping its work<\/a> on its electric vehicle project.
