Instead, they\u2019re trying to con everyone by selling the overseas welfare as a \u201cloan,\u201d as if the tiny nation, suffering an estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/en\/news\/press-release\/2023\/03\/23\/updated-ukraine-recovery-and-reconstruction-needs-assessment\">half-trillion in destruction<\/a>, will ever be in a position to reimburse the suckers who agree to such a scam.<\/p>\n<p>As of late last month, the World Bank calculated that the cost of \u201creconstruction and recovery\u201d for Ukraine is $411 billion. That grows by the second. Americans have already sent north of $113 billion, no strings attached, to Washington\u2019s favorite foreign charity case, and the White House is urging that we send another $60 billion\u2014 <em>at least<\/em>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1324037188\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cf7d68ceb6a8238678b010b87f33c0e2 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-cf7d68ceb6a8238678b010b87f33c0e2\"><\/div>\n<p>It\u2019s offensive enough that both Democrats and Republicans insist that throwing fistfuls of cash at a conflict 5,000 miles away is exponentially <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/05\/democrat-border-deal-ukraine-gets-more-money-americans-get-more-poor-illegal-immigrants\/\">more important<\/a> than shutting down the hordes of destitute migrants shoving their way across the southern border. But upon realizing just how <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/538\/years-war-american-support-ukraine\/story?id=107488095\">unpopular<\/a> their preference for Ukraine is, Republicans in Washington are trying to deceive their own voters by suggesting the money isn\u2019t free because it will be a loan. <\/p>\n<p><em>Don\u2019t you see, you dummies?! Loans must be paid back in full!<\/em> <em>It\u2019s fine! Shut up!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven President Trump has talked about the loan concept where we set up\u2014 we\u2019re not just giving foreign aid,\u201d House Speaker Mike Johnson <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6350055589112\">said Sunday<\/a> on Fox News, stammering through what he knew was B.S. \u201cWe\u2019re setting it up in a relationship where they can provide it back to us when the time is right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s at least not lying about Trump also making the pitch. \u201cIt can be loaned on extraordinarily good terms,\u201d Trump said on his Truth Social platform <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/111908663705756439\">in February<\/a>, \u201clike no interest and an unlimited life\u2026\u201d (\u201cWhen the time is right\u201d is sometimes referred to as \u201cunlimited life.\u201d)<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-83200835afac1bb8632c574398d006e3 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-83200835afac1bb8632c574398d006e3\"><\/div>\n<p>South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/sen-graham-touts-trump-plan-ukraine-loan-overseas-meeting-zelenskyy\">proposed<\/a> a \u201cno-interest, waivable\u201d loan.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201cloan\u201d that comes with no interest and no repayment deadline, and can ultimately be forgiven for any reason at all is, by definition, not a loan. It\u2019s free money. And taxpayers have been taken for that ride countless times already. <\/p>\n<p>At the very end of his second term in office, Bill Clinton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/us-forgives-435m-foreign-debt\/\">forced U.S. taxpayers to swallow half<\/a> a billion dollars in foreign debt total. Before that, George Bush Sr. had taxpayers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1991\/05\/27\/business\/half-of-egypt-s-20.2-billion-debt-being-forgiven-by-us-and-allies.html\">swallow<\/a> several billions in debt held by Poland and Egypt. (Delightfully for him, Clinton probably soaked up some of that back up in foreign-sponsored Clinton Foundation \u201cspeeches.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>Congressional leaders get all wet and messy at the very sight of Volodymyr Zelensky(yyy) in his camo costume. Why would anyone trust them to collect repayment from him? They would never. And we don\u2019t even know what\u2019s going to happen to him tomorrow, let alone \u201cwhen the time is right\u201d for him to get his first bill.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5fc40109ee7f3599de4058657b1b7202 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5fc40109ee7f3599de4058657b1b7202\"><\/div>\n<p>So, Mike Johnson, Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham, and all the rest: If you\u2019re so devoted to pushing more money to Ukraine, just say so.
