The housing market in Florida experienced a significant 60% price increase, leading individuals like Louis Rotkowitz to relocate due to issues like \u200bdangerous roads and the prevalence of firearms, as documented by NBC News.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Despite experiencing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>pandemic<\/a> population boom, nearly 500,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Florida\">Florida<\/a> transplants decided to leave the state and move back north. <\/p>\n<p>According to data analytics firm CoreLogic, there were nearly two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/housing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>homebuyers<\/a> moving to Florida in 2023 for every one person leaving.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The devastation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hurricane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"hurricanes\">hurricanes<\/a> on property, rising housing costs, increased homeowners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/insurance-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"insurance\">insurance<\/a> rates, and politics have been some of the reasons behind the Florida reverse migration. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insurancejournal.com\/news\/southeast\/2022\/09\/30\/687623.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"hurricanes\">estimated<\/a> last fall that the damage from Hurricane Ian could be $47 billion in Florida. <\/p>\n<p>Real estate website Zillow is <a href=\"https:\/\/zillow.mediaroom.com\/2024-02-29-Home-buyers-need-to-earn-47,000-more-than-in-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"calling\">calling<\/a> the Sunshine State one of the more expensive states to buy homes due to the rise in prices by 60%.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/economics\/leaving-florida-rcna142316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"interviewed\">interviewed<\/a> Louis Rotkowitz, a transplant from New York, who bought a house in the West Palm Beach area in 2022 but found his commute with erratic drivers, rising homeowner costs, and the prevalence of guns as not ideal. He picked up and moved to North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone is walking around with guns there,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/economics\/leaving-florida-rcna142316\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"reportedly\">reportedly<\/a> said. <\/p>\n<p>Another transplant from Connecticut cited the lower salary and rising insurance costs as \u201chidden costs\u201d and moved back north.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma native Donna Smith told NBC that rising costs and politics drove her out of Florida to Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel it is as oppressive. People don\u2019t wear it on their sleeve like they did in Florida,\u201d she said of her preference for Pennsylvania over Florida. \u201cWhen you walk in a room, you don\u2019t overhear a conversation all the time where people are saying, \u2018Trump is the best.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other transplants complained that they were unaware of the heat in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it would be warmer. I didn\u2019t expect it to be literally 100 degrees at night,\u201d Jodi Cummings, a transplant from Connecticut, said.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Floridians took to social media to mock the transplants and their decision to move north.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLol, born and raised in Florida.
