Still, \u200cCourtney Kramer, a local Republican, challenges DA \u2064Fani Willis amidst a legal battle with ex-President Trump. Kramer seeks to educate voters on \u2063the DA&#8217;s \u2063role, aiming to sway traditionally Democratic \u200bvoters. Despite slim odds, her campaign aims to \u200caddress public safety issues\u200b and separate politics from prosecution effectively.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Fulton County has only ever voted for a Republican presidential candidate twice in its history: in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1928_United_States_presidential_election_in_Georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1928<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1972_United_States_presidential_election_in_Georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1972<\/a>. But Republican Courtney Kramer has launched a bid to unseat District Attorney Fani Willis as she wages a lawfare campaign against former President Donald Trump. <\/p>\n<p>One of the nation\u2019s most reliably blue counties, a Republican winning the role of Fulton County district attorney is all but a fever dream. Kramer, a lifelong resident, said the state of affairs in the county \u2014 while Willis focuses on weaponizing the legal system and using \u201clawfare to go after her political opponents for personal gain\u201d \u2014 motivated her to run despite the odds. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-763611142\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d47c5bd4cf44fc1c4b26a7c33a156114 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-d47c5bd4cf44fc1c4b26a7c33a156114\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cI was not going to sit back and let the voters in Fulton County be told who their next DA is going to be,\u201d Kramer told The Federalist. \u201cThey deserve a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even if Kramer\u2019s campaign to beat Willis is a long shot, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/08\/us\/courtney-kramer-fani-willis-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The New York Times<\/a> still fretted that Kramer\u2019s run could give her \u201cairtime on conservative media outlets\u201d<strong> <\/strong>where she can \u201cuse the exposure to sow doubts about the prosecution of Mr. Trump in the run-up to the November election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kramer explained her goal is to focus on educating voters about the intended role of the DA after Willis \u201cmade it political,\u201d a move she hopes will help inspire traditionally Democrat voters to vote for her. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are starting to become aware of how much they are affected by their DAs,\u201d Kramer said. \u201cI think that up until now, these last couple of years, people didn\u2019t really care who their DA was, but I don\u2019t think they realized how much it affected them personally.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aa391234918c0d2a2947d859a9b59fbb fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-aa391234918c0d2a2947d859a9b59fbb\"><\/div>\n<p>Kramer said the crusades against Trump, including in New York City at the hands of George Soros-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/crime-and-justice\/commentary\/washington-post-fact-checker-should-try-checking-facts-about-soros\">backed<\/a> District Attorney Alvin Bragg, have taken the magnifying glass off serious issues like illegal immigrants murdering college students or criminals being let off easy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of that is a product of having a DA that doesn\u2019t do their job or is focusing on something else instead of prosecuting actual criminals for actual crimes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Atlanta, which is part of Fulton County, saw a 21 percent decrease in its homicide rate in 2023 compared to 2022 but still reported 135 homicides, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/local\/atlanta\/2024\/01\/05\/atlanta-crime-stats-2023-homicide-car-theft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Axios<\/a>. But while homicide rates are down, vehicle theft and shoplifting rose 61 percent and 22 percent respectively, according to the report. Additionally, at least 10 inmates died in the overcrowded Fulton County Jail in 2023, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/11\/12\/1212534845\/10-inmates-have-died-in-the-overcrowded-fulton-county-jail-in-atlanta#:~:text=Weekend%20Edition%20Sunday-,10%20inmates%20have%20died%20in%20the%20overcrowded%20Fulton%20County%20Jail,catchup%20from%20COVID%2D19%20shutdowns.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NPR<\/a>. One victim was allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/clayton-county\/fulton-murder-suspect-mistakenly-released-jail-after-court-hearing-clayton-county\/PRLP72B6VJDQDJWWQD2Q4JU7UQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">murdered<\/a> by his cellmates while awaiting trial, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe job of the DA is to protect the citizens here and that\u2019s not being done. The misuse of funds, the lying, the lack of transparency, it\u2019s not common among DAs. What\u2019s going on in the office right now is not the job of the office,\u201d Kramer said. \u201cYou go anywhere in Fulton County, it\u2019s unsafe. It should never be that way. And the DA has the ability to make our streets safe, to put criminals away, to make sure our victims are being advocated for. She\u2019s not zealously advocating for the people of Fulton County, she\u2019s zealously advocating for herself.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0f17eacca57d37c5bb972b4940fb3323 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-0f17eacca57d37c5bb972b4940fb3323\"><\/div>\n<p>Kramer said she could not comment much on ongoing cases \u2014 including the lawfare being waged against Trump \u2014 since she would be in charge of overseeing them should she be elected, but said she would ultimately recuse herself from the Trump prosecution due to conflicts of interest. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I won\u2019t do is sit there and prosecute a high profile case for political gain,\u201d she said. \u201cYou have to not be focused on climbing the totem pole in politics and that\u2019s what is happening right now with Willis. When you have political prosecution and lawfare being used, I\u2019m not going to take part in that at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kramer, who is currently an associate at the Katz Law Group, said she would recuse herself from the case against the former president if she wins.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would recuse myself from the case because I have previously worked for one of the defendants on the case and worked on Trump litigation in 2020,\u201d Kramer explained. Kramer served as special counsel for David Shafer, who is one of Trump\u2019s co-defendants in Willis\u2019 lawfare against the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would recuse myself because I have a conflict of interest in that case, and Fani Willis, she clearly has a conflict of interest but she\u2019s not recusing herself,\u201d Kramer said, promising she would focus on crime plaguing the city rather than high-profile cases solely for political gain. <\/p>\n<p>Willis was recently forced to decide between continuing her lawfare against Trump or keeping Nathan Wade, her lover whom she had previously hired to help run the prosecution, on the case. She chose the former. <\/p>\n<p>The ultimatum came after <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/15\/judge-lets-fani-willis-continue-trump-case-despite-cloud-of-impropriety-and-potential-untruthfulness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee<\/a> \u2014 who donated to Willis\u2019 campaign in 2020 \u2014 said she potentially lied and had a \u201ctremendous lapse in judgment\u201d but could nonetheless continue targeting Trump so long as Wade withdrew from the case. <\/p>\n<p>Trump, along with several other co-defendants, argued Willis should be disqualified from prosecuting them on racketeering charges related to the 2020 election because Willis has an alleged conflict of interest in the case, including having allegedly financially benefited from hiring Wade as a special prosecutor. Wade allegedly took Willis on lavish vacations using the money he earned while on the case. Wade\u2019s law firm was paid more than $650,000 for his work over a two year span while the firms of other special prosecutors on the case were each paid less than $100,000, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.11alive.com\/article\/news\/special-reports\/ga-trump-investigation\/nathan-wade-paid-substantially-more-than-fulton-special-prosecutors\/85-c1fa7418-7608-4417-a685-2fbab1c450aa\">11 Alive<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Kramer says Willis has \u201cabused\u201d her office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people say, \u2018Oh, are you scared of Fani? This is a big race, it\u2019s very Democrat in Fulton County!\u2019 I\u2019m not scared of Fani,\u201d Kramer said. \u201cBut what I am fearful about is the Fulton County I see under a Fani Willis district attorney\u2019s office because that\u2019s terrifying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing an elected official is a privilege and when you abuse a privilege you risk it being taken away,\u201d Kramer continued. \u201cFani has abused her privilege of being an elected official and I think the citizens of Fulton County deserve a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-587f0ff52f94209aac8d1da7ba1b62ad fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-587f0ff52f94209aac8d1da7ba1b62ad\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fulton County, a traditionally blue stronghold, has sided with Republican presidential candidates just twice in history \u2013 in 1928 and 1972.
