Judge LaDoris Cordell emphasized the importance of immediate consequences\u200b for defying \u2062court orders,\u200d highlighting the need for accountability in the legal system. However, Trump\u200b has not breached the gag order yet. Cordell stressed the necessity of enforcing consequences promptly.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>California<\/a> judge is suggesting that the consequences need to be harsher for former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> should he break a gag order he has been placed under, recommending he be put in jail.<\/p>\n<p>Former California Superior Court Judge LaDoris Cordell <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Acyn\/status\/1774584070606925871\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a>, \u201cThere has to be an immediate consequence when he defies a court order,\u201d such as the gag order he was placed under by Judge Juan Merchan in the New York hush-money criminal case.\u00a0However, Cordell acknowledged to CNN that it does not appear Trump has violated the gag order just yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen he steps across that gag order line, and I do hope it will be expanded, there should be only one response: bring your toothbrush, Donald Trump, because you\u2019re going to sit in a jail cell for a while,\u201d Cordell said. \u201cThat is a normal response. And that has to change, and it has to change now.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>After Trump was given the gag order in the New York criminal case, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2945815\/trumps-new-york-gag-order-confusion-swirls-in-warring-court-filings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>targeted the judge\u2019s daughter<\/a>, who is president of a marketing firm that serves Democratic politicians, including by calling her a \u201cRabid Trump Hater.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/manhattan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Manhattan<\/a> District Attorney Alvin Bragg\u2019s office and Trump\u2019s defense team filed warring pre-motions regarding the scope of the order.<\/p>\n<p>The March 26 gag order limits Trump from making statements about potential witnesses, attorneys, court staff, or other family members of prosecutors or lawyers but leaves open the ability for Trump to speak about Bragg. It\u2019s unclear when Merchan will respond.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has been given gag orders in the federal election interference case in Washington, D.C., and the New York civil fraud case overseen by Judge\u00a0Arthur Engoron, in which Trump was ordered to pay $355 million, plus interest. Cordell believes the judges have done things \u201cappropriately\u201d with warnings and fines and then the gag orders.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn this instance, the gag order, if it\u2019s expanded \u2026 so far, he has not violated that gag order, although he\u2019s tip-toeing very close to the line,\u201d the former California judge said, noting that she can understand people who believe a \u201cdouble standard\u201d has been applied to Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I think now it\u2019s starting to sink in to these judges that their lives, their family members, are all at stake here in terms of the threats of violence and intimidation.
