The\u200c event included migrants tearing down razor wire and engaging with\u2063 the Texas National Guard.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>On Easter Sunday a magistrate judge in El Paso, Texas, ordered the release of migrants who were charged with rioting after a large group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-mob-of-military-aged-illegal-aliens-storm-past-troops-on-border\">stormed the border<\/a>, tearing down razor wire and clashing with members of the Texas National Guard in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding Magistrate Judge Humberto Acosta delivered the ruling after accusing the El Paso District Attorney\u2019s office of failing to prepare properly and thus not being ready and \u201cnot being ready to proceed with detention hearings for each defendant,\u201d The El Paso Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elpasotimes.com\/story\/news\/immigration\/2024\/03\/31\/el-paso-border-riot-judge-orders-migrants-release\/73161289007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the ruling of the court is that all the rioting participation cases will be released on their own recognizance,\u201d Acosta said, but court officials did confirm that any defendants who were subject to previously-ordered federal immigration holds would not be released under that order.<\/p>\n<p>The group of illegal immigrants released pursuant to Sunday\u2019s ruling only represented some of the more than 70 who were arrested after the border breach \u2013 which was perpetrated by a large group of mostly young men from Venezuela on March 21 \u2014 and another hearing for other involved defendants is scheduled to take place on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The breach occurred at \u201cBorder Safety Initiative Marker No. 36 in the Riverside area of El Paso\u2019s Lower Valley,\u201d the Times reported, and those involved tore down razor wire before crashing through the fence.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the defendants were also charged with assault and criminal mischief after clashing with members of the National Guard, and the Times said it was \u201cunclear\u201d whether Judge Acosta intended for those defendants to be released as well as those whose sole charge was \u201criot participation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Border Patrol Chief <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/jason-owens-border-patrol-southern-border-national-security-threat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jason Owens<\/a> recently sat down with CBS News\u2019 Camilo Montoya-Galvez to discuss the situation, which he called a definite \u201cnational security threat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s keeping me up at night is the 140,000 known got-aways,\u201d Owens said. \u201cWhy are they risking their lives and crossing in areas where we can\u2019t get to? Why are they hiding? What do they have to hide? What are they bringing in? What is their intent? Where are they coming from? We simply don\u2019t know the answers to those questions.
