Buddy Carter (R-GA) called for more fiscal responsibility amid the collapse of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/2946382\/first-piece-of-baltimore-bridge-debris-removed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Francis Scott Key\">Francis Scott Key<\/a> Bridge in <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/baltimore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Baltimore<\/a>, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>Carter appeared on <a href=\"http:\/\/foxnews.com\/shows\/sunday-morning-futures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>Sunday Morning Futures<\/em><\/a>  after crews removed the first piece of the collapsed bridge\u00a0from the Patapsco River on Saturday in an effort to reopen the\u00a0port there. It\u2019s going to be a big impact on our economy,\u201d Carter said. \u201cHowever, when we get into this, we need to look at a number of different things. First of all, what\u2019s the responsibility of the shipping company? What\u2019s the responsibility of the insurance company? And what about funds that are already out there, particularly in the infrastructure bill?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>His comments were a reference to the $1.2 trillion bill passed in 2021. It included funding for roads, bridges, broadband expansion, green energy initiatives, and water projects, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan they be diverted and used for this instead of using new money?\u201d Carter suggested. \u201cI\u2019m on the Budget Committee, and I\u2019ll tell you it\u2019s situations like this why we should be fiscally responsible.
