Governor Wes Moore updated without\u200d a set timeline during a press conference,\u200c highlighting plans to enhance vessel movement\u2062 post-recovery. Governor Wes Moore provided an update \u2062during a press\u200b conference,\u2062 focusing on improving vessel traffic after the recovery \u2064efforts.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Crews removed the first piece of the collapsed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/2945909\/cruise-lines-move-routes-away-from-baltimore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Francis Scott Key bridge\">Francis Scott Key Bridge<\/a> from the Patapsco River on Saturday in an effort to reopen the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/2942849\/baltimore-mayor-slams-people-saying-dei-caused-bridge-collapse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Francis Scott Key bridge\">Port of Baltimore<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The northern part of the bridge\u2019s steel frame was sawn off to allow it to be carried off in a barge. From there, the section will be transported to the site of the former Bethlehem Steel Mill, which will soon be a distribution center for companies such Amazon. Gov. <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/wes-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wes Moore<\/a> (D-MD) gave an update during a press conference without offering a specific timeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will eventually allow us to open up a temporarily restricted channel that will help us to get more vessels in the water around the site of the collapse,\u201d Moore said. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to take days, but once we complete this phase of the work, we can move more tugs and more barges and more boats into the area to accelerate our recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>A large cargo ship lost power before it struck the bridge\u2019s support column. It was able to send a mayday distress signal, which alerted authorities to stop traffic from entering the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>Between $100 million and $200 million worth of cargo moves through the Port of Baltimore every day. As a result of the bridge collapse, 10 cargo ships were temporarily stuck without a port. Now ports in Virginia are soliciting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2942520\/virginia-ports-get-influx-of-marine-traffic-diverted-from-baltimore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">more traffic<\/a> there to avoid the wreckage, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/2945909\/cruise-lines-move-routes-away-from-baltimore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"cruise ships\">cruise ships<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Divers recovered two bodies from the river, and the four others are presumed dead. The two identified were Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, from\u00a0Mexico\u00a0and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26, from\u00a0Guatemala. The other workers were from Honduras and El Salvador.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2941541\/white-house-too-soon-cost-time-frame-baltimore-bridge-reconstruction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">committed<\/a> to funding the bridge\u2019s reconstruction, but that could be a long road in a divided Congress during an election year.
