Mnuchin aims to navigate around challenges related to purchasing TikTok from Chinese owners\u2064 by excluding the restricted algorithm.\u2062 This strategic move could \u200cpotentially lead to a discounted acquisition, prompting a rebuild of the social\u200c media network.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Treasury\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Treasury<\/a> Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/steve-mnuchin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Steven Mnuchin<\/a> is reportedly telling investors he would rebuild <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tiktok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"TikTok\">TikTok<\/a> if he is able to purchase the popular social media platform.<\/p>\n<p>Mnuchin has told prospective investors that he may try to overcome the hurdles of a TikTok purchase from its current Chinese owners by not buying the algorithm, which China has banned from being exported, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/technology\/2024\/03\/30\/tiktok-mnuchin-sale-algorithm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"report\">report<\/a> from the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The report suggests that Mnuchin believes he can buy the platform at a discount if the algorithm is not included, but it would force the social media network to be rebuilt as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Mnuchin announced his intention to assemble a group of investors to purchase TikTok as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/House-of-Representatives\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House of Representatives<\/a> advanced legislation to force the Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok or have the app banned in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great business, and I\u2019m going to put together a group to buy TikTok,\u201d Mnuchin said on CNBC\u2019s <em>Squawk Box<\/em> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis should be owned by U.S. businesses.
