I\u2019m pleased that the Medicaid program will get these funds back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mako was accused of offering health care providers both \u201cpresumptive\u201d and \u201cdefinitive\u201d urine drug tests, the state said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA presumptive test detects the general presence of a substance, and a definitive test determines the precise amounts of a substance,\u201d the release said. \u201cFor providers who ordered both tests, Mako performed them on the same sample at or near the same time, for the same or similar substances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Definitive testing \u201cwas not medically necessary or reasonable under North Carolina Medicaid policy, the state said.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s Medicaid Investigations Division uses data mining to identify and prosecute health care fraud, the news release said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt should be noted that the civil claims resolved by settlement here are allegations only, and that there has been no judicial determination or admission of liability,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The North Carolina Department of Justice, representing the public, settles for $2.1 million with a Raleigh medical lab over alleged false Medicaid claims.
