These initiatives \u200caim to reduce energy costs, \u2062create jobs for \u200cfarmers and\u200d rural\u2064 businesses, and \u200bgenerate new income\u2062 streams. The projects will be\u2063 spread across a \u200cdozen \u2062counties,\u2062 with significant grants awarded to companies in Snyder \u2062and York Counties for solar installations. This funding \u200dwill benefit various\u200d counties, with\u2063 substantial \u2064grants going to enterprises in Snyder and York Counties for solar power installations.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2014 On the heels of a massive solar investment from the Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture will send almost $6 million to fund 31 renewable energy projects across Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese projects will lower energy costs, generate new income and create jobs for Pennsylvanian\u2019s farmers, agricultural producers and rural small businesses,\u201d USDA State Director for Rural Development Bob Morgan said.<\/p>\n<p>A dozen counties will host the projects, about half of them in Lancaster (10) and Bradford (6) Counties.<\/p>\n<p>The money follows a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_9f90f72c-e7ba-11ee-92f3-6fb9b167b904.html\">$90 million solar investment<\/a><\/strong> on former mining land in Clearfield County that\u2019s expected to generate enough power for 70,000 homes \u2014 the state\u2019s largest project to date.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest awards from the USDA grants, $1 million each, will go to a pallet company in Snyder County and a biotech company in York County. Remmey \u2013 The Pallet Company will install a 1.5 megawatt solar system, while Biotechnique will add a 1.2 megawatt solar system.<\/p>\n<p>Carlisle Productions in Cumberland County, which operates the fairgrounds and expo center in Carlisle, will get $657,000 for a 749 kilowatt solar system.<\/p>\n<p>Other awardees range from farmers to power equipment manufacturers and a trucking company. Funding for solar projects and energy-efficiency upgrades have been routine for the commonwealth from the USDA.<\/p>\n<p>In January, the federal agency sent <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_b0d0b2e2-ba39-11ee-9cd7-a3142c0f5b63.html\">$5 million for 34 projects<\/a><\/strong>, part of $200 million in awarded grants nationally. Last December, another <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_43305caa-7d73-11ed-a588-33b3ad27c16d.html\">$1 million went to 17 projects<\/a><\/strong> as well. Since 2021, USDA\u2019s Rural Development program has sent $39 million to more than 300 renewable energy projects in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The funds come from the Inflation Reduction Act; the USDA argues the spending \u201c(grows) the nation\u2019s economy from the middle out and bottom up by increasing competition in agricultural markets, lowering costs and expanding clean energy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though the money generally goes for solar projects or efficiency upgrades, other projects slip in on occasion. In 2022, the town of Bloomsburg took $500,000 from the USDA <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_dcc62712-257d-11ed-b24f-9723cf076b9c.html\">to repave four parking lots<\/a><\/strong> through a USDA Community Facility Disaster Grant award.<\/p>\n<p>The Inflation Reduction Act has directed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/pennsylvania\/article_ed41b8a8-3b9e-11ee-9637-534127a16914.html\">$400 billion<\/a><\/strong> in subsidies, grants, and loan guarantees for renewable energy projects.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer\/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thecentersquare.com%2Fpennsylvania%2Farticle_e6bd09e0-eded-11ee-85b7-1fc45ab0efa7.html%3Futm_medium%3Dsocial%26utm_source%3Dfacebook%26utm_campaign%3Duser-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a significant solar investment by the Department of Energy, the USDA will provide nearly $6 million for 31 renewable energy projects in Pennsylvania.
