Despite appeals, the renewal was denied.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>A Christian couple is suing Washington state for allegedly refusing to renew their foster care license over their views on gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>Shane and Jennifer DeGross <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/washington-state-denies-foster-care-license-parents-unwilling-promote-states-gender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed<\/a> a federal lawsuit last week against state officials who they allege refused to renew their license after nearly a decade as foster parents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWashington revoked their foster-care license because of their religious beliefs about human sexuality \u2014 prioritizing an ideological agenda over children\u2019s best interests by excluding capable parents who can care for children in need,\u201d reads the <a href=\"https:\/\/dm1l19z832j5m.cloudfront.net\/2024-03\/DeGross-v-Hunter-2024-03-22-Complaint.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lawsuit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat hurts the many children in foster care, discriminates against the DeGrosses, and violates the Constitution,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/dm1l19z832j5m.cloudfront.net\/2024-03\/DeGross-v-Hunter-2024-03-22-Complaint.pdf\">suit<\/a> adds.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The State of Washington disqualified Shane and Jennifer DeGross from providing children with a loving home, simply because they disagree with the state&#8217;s view on promoting an extreme gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>Our new case DeGross v. Hunter \u2b07\ufe0f | <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FoxNews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AOYiOeGmnh\">pic.twitter.com\/AOYiOeGmnh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Alliance Defending Freedom (@ADFLegal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ADFLegal\/status\/1773367765283332406?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 28, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The couple has served as foster parents to four children.<\/p>\n<p>The DeGrosses said they had been working with foster care licensing agency Olive Crest, which informed them that Washington\u2019s Department of Children, Youth, and Families had implemented new guidelines requiring all foster parents to use a child\u2019s new pronouns based on their gender identity.<\/p>\n<p>The couple said they told the licensing agency that they would love and support any child placed in their home but could not lie to a child about their identity or encourage a child to reject their sex, citing their Christian faith.<\/p>\n<p>State officials then denied the couple\u2019s license renewal despite multiple attempts by the licensing agency to appeal the decision, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1711802746102000&#038;usg=AOvVaw16U-1IxHH3FDJFeH-A6M8Q\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The couple is represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which filed the lawsuit on their behalf on March 22 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington in Tacoma south of Seattle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWashington is putting families like the DeGrosses to an impossible choice: speak against your faith and lie or give up the opportunity to care for hurting children. That is illegal and wrong,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/press-release\/washington-state-denies-foster-care-license-parents-unwilling-promote-states-gender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> ADF legal counsel Johannes Widmalm-Delphonse.<\/p>\n<p>The attorney cited a 2020 federal case where another Washington couple was initially barred from fostering their one-year-old great granddaughter for the same reason \u2014 they opposed gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>The great grandparents in that case sued the Department of Child, Youth, and Families, and eventually, a federal judge decided in their favor.<\/p>\n<p>A similar case is also <a href=\"https:\/\/adflegal.org\/case\/bates-v-pakseresht\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">playing out<\/a> in neighboring Oregon. Jessica Bates, a mother of five, is suing Oregon for denying her application to be a foster parent because of her religious beliefs on gender ideology.<\/p>\n<p>Washington state\u2019s foster care system has a shortage of caregivers as of a 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcyf.wa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/pdf\/reports\/FP-AdoptiveHomeRecruitmentReport2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>, which mentions they are looking specifically for foster parents who are \u201cracially and culturally diverse\u201d and \u201caffirming of LGBTQIA+ youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Christian couple, Shane and Jennifer DeGross, is suing Washington State for not renewing their foster care license due to their gender ideology views.
