Senate Republicans criticize Democrats for endorsing Mangi, accusing them of being soft on crime and antisemitism.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democratic-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Democratic senator\">Democratic senators<\/a> have come out against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Democratic senator\">President Joe Biden<\/a>\u2019s pick to be the first Muslim American appeals court judge as concerns grow that a potential vote on the nominee could hurt vulnerable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"senators\">senators<\/a> up for reelection this year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2932114\/biden-judicial-nominee-chances-dead-as-jimmy-hoffa-after-manchin-opposition\/\">Adeel Mangi<\/a>, a litigator who was nominated for a seat on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in November, has been the subject of criticism due to his links to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2943421\/largest-pennsylvania-police-union-leaders-tell-senate-to-oppose-biden-judicial-nominee\/\">anti-police activism<\/a> and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2906704\/biden-judicial-pick-anti-israel-activists-event-sponsored-terrorism-tied-group\/\">association<\/a> with Rutgers Law School\u2019s Center for Security, Race and Rights, which Republicans believe has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/white-house\/white-house-pushes-back-gop-attacks-muslim-judicial-nominee-rcna139016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"circulated antisemitic views\">circulated antisemitic views<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) became the third Democrat in the Senate on Wednesday to voice opposition to Mangi\u2019s nomination, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/birenbomb\/status\/1773114893111066853?s=20\">telling<\/a> the <em>Nevada Independent<\/em> that she would not support him, citing \u201cconcerns I\u2019ve heard from law enforcement in Nevada.\u201d Rosen joins Sens. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), who have come out against Mangi\u2019s nomination to the Philadelphia-based 3rd Circuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A day after Rosen announced her opposition, leaders of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/largest-pennsylvania-police-union-leaders-tell-senate-to-oppose-biden-judicial-nominee-2\/\" title=\"Top Pennsylvania police union officials urge Senate to \u2018reject\u2019 Biden's judicial pick\">largest police unions<\/a>, representing 40,000 officers in Pennsylvania, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2943421\/largest-pennsylvania-police-union-leaders-tell-senate-to-oppose-biden-judicial-nominee\/\">sent a letter <\/a>to Senate leadership Thursday calling for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to \u201cstand up for law enforcement\u201d and oppose Mangi\u2019s nomination, citing his membership on the advisory board of the <a href=\"https:\/\/afj-ny.org\/\">criminal justice reform group<\/a> Alliance of Families for Justice that called a person who murdered a police officer a \u201cfreedom fighter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Senate Republicans, including Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), are going after Democrats for pushing Mangi\u2019s nomination, claiming the party is in \u201cthe process of succumbing to noxious stains of anti-Semitism and soft-on-crime radicalism.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur colleagues may not mind Mr. Mangi\u2019s cavorting with apologists for terrorism and cop killing,\u201d McConnell said during a speech on the Senate floor last week. \u201cThat much wouldn\u2019t be surprising considering that their party is in the process of succumbing to noxious strains of antisemitism and soft-on-crime radicalism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The greater push to portray the Democratic Party overall as soft on crime continues to be a prominent theme in the presidential election as well. Former President Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/2943734\/trump-calls-police-the-greatest-people-we-have-in-mourning-officers-death\/\">attended the wake<\/a> of a New York police officer killed in the line of duty and called for \u201claw and order\u201d on Thursday, an attempt to contrast himself with President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>But, now there\u2019s growing concern that Mangi\u2019s nomination could be playing into that narrative, forcing vulnerable Democrats up for reelection to take a tough vote that could follow them to the ballot box.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know Democrats behind the scenes have already been telling the administration that Mangi doesn\u2019t have the votes, so my question is why aren\u2019t they pulling this nomination,\u201d one Democratic strategist, who asked to remain anonymous in an effort not to harm his clients with ties to the Biden administration, questioned. \u201cIt\u2019s an unfortunate situation and I sympathize, but we need to be doing everything we possibly can to reelect Jon Tester in Montana and Sherrod Brown in Ohio, and making them vote on this isn\u2019t doing that.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is plenty of time for Biden to get a nominee like Mangi through if he can win this presidential election and expand our majority in Congress. But, for now, every single decision needs to be made in the effort of that centralized goal,\u201d the strategist added.<\/p>\n<p>The White House is touting a slew of law enforcement endorsements for Mangi, which includes three former New Jersey attorneys general and two former U.S. attorneys general, plus endorsements from seven law enforcement groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Mangi, who has lived the American Dream and proven his integrity, is being targeted by a malicious and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/largest-pennsylvania-police-union-leaders-tell-senate-to-oppose-biden-judicial-nominee\/\" title=\"Top Pennsylvania police union leaders urge Senate to \u2018reject\u2019 Biden judicial nominee\">debunked smear campaign solely<\/a> because he would make history as the first Muslim to serve as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-ag-nominee-wont-commit-to-keeping-durham-as-special-counsel\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s AG nominee won\u2019t commit to keeping Durham as special counsel\">federal appellate judge<\/a>,\u201d White House deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>For now, the majority of Senate Democrats are standing by the nominee, with some calling the attacks against him a \u201csmear campaign.\u201d Senate Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-IL) said Mangi had \u201cminimal involvement\u201d with the Alliance of Families for Justice and that nothing he\u2019s done could show he supports \u201ccop killers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a longtime corporate lawyer, Mr. Mangi has never said or written anything \u2014 anything \u2014 that suggests he supports individuals who have murdered members of law enforcement,\u201d Durbin said in a floor speech earlier this month. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mangi moved forward in the confirmation process after being approved earlier this year by the Judiciary Committee on an 11-10 party-line vote but faces mounting uncertainty due to Democrats\u2019 slim 51-49 majority. Democrats would need at least two Republicans to cross party lines and support Mangi to get his nomination over the finish line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Democrats are looking at a challenging map this cycle, with 20 Democratic-held Senate seats up, as are the three held by independents who caucus with the Democrats.
