At the time of his passing, \u2062Tom Henry was in \u2062his fifth term as the\u2062 cherished mayor of \u200dFort Wayne, \u2064leaving behind a legacy \u200bof \u200dservice \u200bto the community.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Tom Henry, the longtime <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mayor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>mayor<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/indiana\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Fort Wayne, Indiana<\/a>, died from late-stage <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>stomach cancer<\/a> on Thursday at the age of 72 after he suffered a medical emergency from the cancer on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Henry\u2019s family said he died at his home in Indiana and had been placed in hospice after the medical emergency. After careful consideration of the risks associated with surgical intervention, Mayor Henry opted for comfort measures. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His death comes just one month after he announced the cancer diagnosis and two months after his wife, Cindy, died of pancreatic cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Democratic mayor <\/a>was considered a staple in Fort Wayne politics, having served as the mayor since 2008. Before his tenure as mayor, Henry spent 20 years as a city councilman from 1984-2004.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny words of sadness or condolences regarding the passing of Mayor Henry are inadequate,\u201d Fort Wayne Councilman Russ Jehl <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs4indy.com\/news\/tom-henry-longstanding-leader-of-fort-wayne-passes-away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> in a statement. \u201cAs a community, we have suffered an unmeasurable loss.
