Wes Moore declared a state of emergency Tuesday, which will allow the state to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/n-y-and-n-j-to-receive-federal-aid-after-deadly-flooding\/\" title=\"N.Y. and N.J. to receive federal aid after deadly flooding\">receive federal aid<\/a>, but on Thursday, the state <a href=\"https:\/\/mdot.maryland.gov\/MDOTDocuments\/2024.03.28KeyBridgeLetterForQuickReleaseOfERFunds.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>requested<\/a> $60 million more in emergency federal funding to help clean up the wreckage. The total cost of the cleanup and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/oprah-ditches-weight-watchers-board-donates-stock-to-museum-of-african-american-history\/\" title=\"Oprah leaves Weight Watchers board, gifts stock to African American History Museum\">recovery remains uncertain<\/a>, MDT wrote.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Following the bridge\u2019s partial collapse, President Joe Biden pledged that the government would cover the cost of rebuilding efforts. Though it is \u201ctoo soon to be certain\u201d how much the rebuild will cost and how much time it will take, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2941541\/white-house-too-soon-cost-time-frame-baltimore-bridge-reconstruction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do not know what the total costs are going to be. I do not yet know what the full timeline is going to be,\u201d Moore told reporters Wednesday. \u201cBut the thing that I do know is that the task in front of us, it will be real, and it will be daunting. Despite this task ahead of being daunting, I can tell you right now our resolve is unshaken. We will get to completion. We will do it together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the state will have access to the aid in the next couple of days, funding in the long term could take longer to get pushed through Congress, Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2024\/03\/28\/key-bridge-maryland-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Transportation\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhwa.dot.gov\/programadmin\/erelief.cfm#ERFA2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"relief program\">relief program<\/a> requires the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/better-than-expected-u-s-economy-added-638000-jobs-in-october-unemployment-dropped-to-6-9\/\" title=\"Better Than Expected: U.S. Economy Added 638,000 Jobs in October, Unemployment Dropped to 6.9%\">federal government<\/a> to pay for 90% of damage repairs, while the remaining is left up to the state.
