Senate Democrats might table the articles, an unprecedented action in U.S. history.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The GOP-led House plans to send the <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Articles-of-Impeachment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">impeachment articles<\/a> against Homeland Security Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/alejandro-mayorkas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alejandro Mayorkas<\/a> over his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/biden-shatters-record-with-historic-number-of-illegal-aliens-encountered-in-december\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">handling of<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/border-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">border crisis<\/a> to the Senate next month.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/mike-johnson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Johnson<\/a> (R-LA) and the impeachment managers <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SpeakerJohnson\/status\/1773394272714195154\">sent a letter<\/a> to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Thursday saying they would present the articles on April 10.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe urge you to schedule a trial of the matter expeditiously,\u201d they wrote, adding later, \u201cWe call upon you to fulfill your constitutional obligation to hold this trial. The American people demand a secure border, an end to this crisis, and accountability for those responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Roughly six weeks ago, in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-impeaches-mayorkas-in-second-attempt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second attempt<\/a>, House lawmakers narrowly passed two articles of impeachment that accuse Mayorkas of \u201cwillfully and systemically\u201d refusing to comply with federal immigration laws, and the other alleged he \u201cbreached the public trust\u201d with false statements and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-panel-releases-2-articles-of-impeachment-against-mayorkas\/\" title=\"House panel issues 2 impeachment articles against Mayorkas\">obstructing lawful oversight<\/a> of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).<\/p>\n<p>Schumer\u2019s office responded by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChadPergram\/status\/1757570767376547950\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saying<\/a> that House impeachment managers \u201cwill present the articles of impeachment to the Senate following the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-senators-release-draft-bill-changing-electoral-vote-count-rules\/\" title=\"Democratic Senators Release Draft Bill Changing Electoral Vote Count Rules\">state work period<\/a>,\u201d suggesting that a trial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/2024_schedule.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">could have<\/a> started as early as late February. The office added that senators \u201cwill be sworn in as jurors in the trial the next day,\u201d and Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray (D-WA) will preside.<\/p>\n<p>In the intervening weeks, Congress scrambled to pass two waves of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/senate-passes-massive-spending-bill-in-middle-of-the-night\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spending legislation<\/a> to avert a government shutdown. House lawmakers also held a public hearing in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-rebuffs-biden-family-loan-repayment-inquiry\/\" title=\"White House rejects inquiry on Biden family 'loan repayment'.\">corruption-focused impeachment inquiry<\/a> against President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>In a new statement following the House letter, Schumer\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jordainc\/status\/1773397310304559368\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reiterated<\/a>, \u201cAs we have said previously, after the House impeachment managers present the articles of impeachment to the Senate, Senators will be sworn in as jurors in the trial the next day. Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray will preside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/about\/powers-procedures\/impeachment.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two-thirds vote<\/a> is required for a conviction in the Democrat-led Senate, which would lead to removal from office. But the articles may not make it far with a motion to table, which, according to the Senate glossary, is \u201ca proposal to set aside any pending question.\u00a0Used to dispose of a question the Chamber does not want to consider further. Agreement to the motion is equivalent to defeating the question tabled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/mike-lee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mike Lee<\/a> (R-UT) and a dozen Republican colleagues <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenMikeLee\/status\/1759946709151502612\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-senators-warn-dems-may-dispense-with-mayorkas-impeachment-articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stressing<\/a> that it is \u201cimperative that the Senate Republican conference prepare to fully engage our Constitutional duty and hold a trial.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Briefings by McConnell\u2019s staff indicate Senate Democrats \u201cintend to dispense with the articles of impeachment by simply tabling both individually,\u201d the letter said. \u201cThis is an action rarely contemplated and never taken by the U.S. Senate in the history of our Republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee and his colleagues ended the letter by calling on McConnell to \u201cjoin us in our efforts to jettison this approach by Democrats to shirk their Constitutional duty, ensure that the Senate conducts a proper trial, and that every Senator, Republican and Democrat, adjudicate this matter when the Senate returns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McConnell later <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1762568469667602510\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> reporters that he thought a full Senate trial \u201cwould be the best way to go forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1708259679271000&#038;usg=AOvVaw1Ee_W9CYO1qJR3zhHtzotv\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Johnson and the 10 impeachment managers, including Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), warned: \u201cTo table articles of impeachment without ever hearing a single argument or reviewing a piece of evidence would be a violation of our constitutional order and an affront to the American people whom we all serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have criticized the impeachment proceedings <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-committee-picks-date-to-consider-mayorkas-impeachment-articles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as a \u201cpolitical stunt<\/a>,\u201d while Mayorkas <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoeKhalilTV\/status\/1752349544925294720\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed back against<\/a> what he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republican-says-he-opposes-mayorkas-impeachment\/\" title=\"GOP Rep. Rejects Mayorkas Impeachment\">called \u201cfalse accusations\u201d levied<\/a> against him.
