Stemming\u2064 from\u200c a false 2019 hate \u200bcrime\u2062 claim, the case \u200dis among those allowed to appeal by the Supreme Court.\u200d Smollett \u200cis\u2063 known for allegedly staging his attack,\u200c which\u200d led to his initial conviction. A \u200bhearing date for the appeal is yet to be \u200dscheduled.\u200b The Illinois Supreme Court\u2064 is \u200bset to \u2064review Jussie Smollett&#8217;s \u200bappeal\u200b following the confirmation of his disorderly conduct conviction by\u2063 an appeals court.\u200c The case, originating from a debunked \u20622019\u2062 hate crime assertion, has been permitted\u200b for appeal by\u2062 the \u200dSupreme Court. Smollett gained notoriety for supposedly orchestrating the incident\u200b that resulted in his initial conviction. A specific date for the appeal hearing \u2063is pending.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The Illinois Supreme Court will hear Jussie Smollett\u2019s appeal after an appeals court in December upheld his conviction for disorderly conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The conviction stems from Smollett\u2019s 2019 claim that he was the victim of a hate crime \u2013 an allegation that proved to be false. The Illinois Supreme Court on Wednesday released <a href=\"https:\/\/ilcourtsaudio.blob.core.windows.net\/antilles-resources\/resources\/1ddf8abe-5325-4153-8797-7f4d5b9958d2\/March%2027,%202024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a list<\/a> of cases that it would allow to appeal, and Smollett\u2019s case is included.<\/p>\n<p>In December, a state appeals court upheld Smollett\u2019s conviction in a 2-1 vote, WLS <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/where-is-jussie-smollett-today-empire-supreme-court-now\/14578113\/?ex_cid=TA_WLS_TW&#038;taid=660457abf4ed320001808e38&#038;utm_campaign=trueAnthem%3A+Trending+Content&#038;utm_medium=trueAnthem&#038;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Smollett then took his appeal to the state Supreme Court. A hearing date for the appeal has not been set.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2019, Smollett claimed he was walking alone at night in Chicago during a polar vortex when two supporters of former President Donald Trump \u2014 allegedly carrying rope and bleach \u2014 recognized him from his role on \u201cEmpire\u201d and brutally attacked him while yelling racial and homophobic slurs.<\/p>\n<p>Smollett returned to a friend\u2019s home and called the police, still wearing the noose that he said was placed around his neck by his attackers.<\/p>\n<p>It was later reported that Smollett hired two Nigerian brothers he had previously worked with to stage the attack to raise his profile and hopefully get him a raise on \u201cEmpire\u201d and further his acting career. The brothers alleged that Smollett paid them to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-denies-jussie-smolletts-last-ditch-effort-to-have-charges-dismissed\/\" title=\"Judge Denies Jussie Smollett\u2019s Last-Ditch Effort To Have Charges Dismissed\">buy plain red hats<\/a> that he later claimed were \u201cMake American Great Again\u201d (MAGA) hats, signaling the attackers\u2019 support of Trump.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2020, Smollett insisted he was \u201cset up\u201d and continued to claim that he was attacked by two white men wearing MAGA hats. The brothers who said they were paid to stage the attack are black. The Daily Wire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/jussie-smollett-insists-he-was-set-up-says-he-has-two-new-witnesses-to-refuse-hoax-claims\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0at the time that Smollett suddenly started claiming he had two witnesses who could prove he did not fake the attack.<\/p>\n<p>After Chicago police investigated Smollett\u2019s original claims for two weeks, they suspected he had staged the attack.\u00a0Smollett was charged with 16 counts of lying to police, but those charges were dropped as part of a sweetheart plea deal made with the Cook County State\u2019s Attorney\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1711722593099000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2BYobdhGnzBnBpziY8U6Zu\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>A special prosecutor was assigned to review the deal, and ultimately revived six of the original charges against Smollett, who was convicted of the charges in 2021. He spent just six days in jail after he appealed his 150-day sentence.<\/p>\n<p>In March of last year, the brothers who helped Smollett stage the attack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/brothers-who-helped-carry-out-staged-attack-on-jussie-smollett-apologize-in-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apologized<\/a> during an appearance on Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just first want to apologize to everyone in the audience, the country, and anyone who might have been affected by this directly.
