This underscores the hurdles the centrist group encounters in appointing a leading figure for the impending election.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/no-labels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"No Labels\">No Labels<\/a> had another high-profile recruit turn down their offer to be at the top of a presidential ticket as the third-party organization continues to search for a candidate in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"No Labels\">2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The centrist political party believes that the rematch of President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> and former President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> gives it a golden opportunity to mount an effective third-party run. <\/p>\n<p>But while the organization has had success getting itself on a handful of ballots, it still doesn\u2019t have a standard bearer. Here is a look at some of the most attractive candidates No Labels has tried to recruit. <\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure><figcaption>Sen. (AP Photo\/Charles Krupa)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>One of the most well-known centrists in the United States, Manchin flirted with a possible third-party presidential run for months. His increasing rhetoric bashing Biden led many to believe he was laying the groundwork for his own presidential run with No Labels, an organization he had allied with. To the surprise of many, in February, Manchin announced he would not be running for president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not be seeking a third party run, I will not be involved in a presidential run,\u201d Manchin <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2860715\/joe-manchin-wont-launch-independent-presidential-bid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>. \u201cI will be involved in making sure that we secure a president who has the knowledge and has the passion and has the ability to bring this country together.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Sen. The 2012 presidential candidate\u2019s vocal opposition to Biden and Trump appeared to many to signal a possible run of his own, speculation ramped up when Manchin announced that Romney was his preferred running mate if he were to run.<\/p>\n<p>While admitting he was flattered by Manchin\u2019s comments, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Utah\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Utah<\/a> Republican shot down suggestions that he would run for president as a third-party candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, that\u2019s really presumptuous,\u201d Romney\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/2024\/2\/15\/24074403\/romney-not-going-to-run-for-president-shoots-down-manchin-rumors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a>\u00a0<em>Deseret News<\/em>,\u00a0referring to Manchin\u2019s comments. \u201cI would be the president. He would be my running mate. No, I\u2019m not going to run for president. Certainly, I\u2019m not running for vice president. But [Manchin is] kind to say that. We\u2019re good friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie<\/strong><\/h2>\n<figure><figcaption>Republican presidential candidate former New Jersey Gov. Bukaty)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Christie campaigned for the 2024 Republican ticket on an anti-Trump platform that failed to win over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Republican\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican<\/a> electorate. After dropping out as he was mired in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-republicans-like-their-governors-democrats-dont\/\" title=\"Poll: Republicans Like Their Governors. Democrats Don\u2019t.\">low poll numbers<\/a>, Christie maintained his image as the leading anti-Trump Republican in the presidential race. Looking to capitalize on this, he eyed the No Labels ticket.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for Christie, his unpopularity extended to the general public as well. An inquiry from his team discovered disappointing polling results, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/03\/27\/chris-christie-no-labels-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, leading to him ultimately deciding against a third-party run.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI appreciate the encouragement I\u2019ve gotten to pursue a third party candidacy,\u201d Christie announced in a post on X. \u201cI believe we need a country that once again feels like everyone has a stake in what we\u2019re doing and leadership that strives to bring people together, instead of using anger to divide us. Her attraction to centrist voters piqued the interest of No Labels, causing former No Labels co-chairman Joe Lieberman to float her as a possible candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Haley was quick to shoot the speculation down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a Republican. You go on a No Labels ticket, what does that mean? A Democrat vice president,\u201d she\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.deseret.com\/2024\/02\/28\/nikki-haley-to-deseret-news-voters-are-desperate-for-another-choice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> <em>Deseret News<\/em>. \u201cThat\u2019s not who I am. I\u2019m a conservative. I\u2019ve always been a hardcore Republican. I think that this is about the party and this is about the country, and the only way to do it is to do it the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Former Maryland Gov. He openly toyed with the possibility of running for president as the party\u2019s candidate, saying that he wouldn\u2019t rule it out last year.<\/p>\n<p>However, he ended speculation last month when he instead opted to run for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Maryland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Maryland<\/a>\u2018s open Senate seat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/2869017\/four-times-no-labels-third-party-initiative-took-hit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"setback\">setback<\/a>, No Labels praised his decision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s never been clearer Washington needs more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-tax-hikes-hitting-resistance\/\" title=\"Biden Tax Hikes Hitting Resistance\">bipartisan problem solvers<\/a>, and Gov.
