For the race-baiting left, any mention of integrity in elections from the right equals \u201cvoter suppression.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHouse Bill 976 threatens democracy,\u201d the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) direly insists in a mass mailing urging Georgians to email their lawmakers to vote against the bill.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Curiously, the ACLU, a crusader against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/documents\/oppose-voter-id-legislation-fact-sheet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voter ID<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/scott-perry-david-mcintosh-democrats-know-stripping-election-safeguards-would-extinguish-fair-elections-but-thats-their-intent\/\" title=\"Scott Perry, David McIntosh: Democrats Know Stripping Election Safeguards Would Extinguish Fair Elections, but That\u2019s Their Intent\">clean voter rolls<\/a>, and other basic election integrity safeguards, claims HB 976, \u201cThreatens Election Integrity\u201d by allowing \u201cthird party databases to be used as evidence\u201d to prove voter ineligibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Integrity appears to be a problem for the ACLU in general. The bill\u2019s language allows only government-created or recognized databases to be used for challenges, not isolated third-party databases.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-88daba5617264a667915d2115fc6e453 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-88daba5617264a667915d2115fc6e453\"><\/div>\n<p>The ACLU, defender of big-spending social programs, laughably demands the elections bill \u201cWastes Taxpayers Dollars\u201d and \u201cOverburdens Election Workers\u201d by requiring homeless people to use the county registrar\u2019s office as their mailing address for registering to vote. \u201cThis would require county staff to implement new processes to handle this mail during an election year,\u201d the mailer asserts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s all designed, according to the far-left\u2019s law firm, to \u201ccreate undue burdens for voters and election officials, and disproportionately impact voters of color.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sounds scary. But the legislation does none of those things. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here\u2019s What It Actually Does<\/h2>\n<p>As The Federalist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/27\/georgia-legislature-tackles-key-election-integrity-measures-before-session-ends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> on Wednesday, House Bill 976 improves ballot chain-of-custody procedures, makes certified absentee ballots subject to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-justice-dept-fights-order-to-release-trump-russia-probe-memo\/\" title=\"Biden's Justice Dept. Fights Order to Release Trump-Russia Probe Memo\">public records laws<\/a>, and lays out standards for when parties and individuals may <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-legislature-tackles-key-election-integrity-measures-before-session-ends\/\" title=\"Georgia lawmakers address important election integrity measures before the end of the session\">challenge invalid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unreliable-voter-rolls-poison-election-integrity-but-one-group-might-have-the-antidote\/\" title=\"Unreliable Voter Rolls Poison Election Integrity, But One Group Might Have The Antidote\">voter roll records<\/a><\/a>. Democrat \u201cvoter rights\u201d activists have blasted the tens of thousands of challenges in recent years, but the red flags have largely been driven by the refusal of election administrators in Georgia\u2019s major metro counties to deal with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texaspolicy.com\/georgia-supposedly-has-the-cleanest-voter-rolls-in-the-nation-but-with-3-million-possible-errors\/\">invalid voter records<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bd76322bcdc0ad7c25ace49dd9e0e7e8 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-bd76322bcdc0ad7c25ace49dd9e0e7e8\"><\/div>\n<p>Data analyst <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/23\/raffensperger-claims-georgias-voter-rolls-are-cleanest-in-the-country-heres-why-thats-bunk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mark Da<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/23\/raffensperger-claims-georgias-voter-rolls-are-cleanest-in-the-country-heres-why-thats-bunk\/\">vis<\/a> found stacks of individuals whose residency information raised questions about their eligibility to vote in the 2020 election. Davis, president of Data Productions Inc., has filed <a href=\"https:\/\/law.justia.com\/codes\/georgia\/2022\/title-21\/chapter-2\/article-6\/section-21-2-230\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Section 230 voter challenges<\/a> based on his extensive research. Leftist <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/04\/court-2020-challenges-to-georgias-voter-rolls-do-not-constitute-voter-intimidation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">big-money interests backing Stacey Abrams<\/a>, the failed Democrat candidate for governor, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/USCOURTS-gand-2_20-cv-00302\/pdf\/USCOURTS-gand-2_20-cv-00302-0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed in their lawsuit<\/a> attacking Davis, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ntd.com\/true-the-vote-wins-federal-election-lawsuit-in-georgia_963908.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">True the Vote,<\/a> which conducted its own analysis of Georgia voter rolls.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>House Bill 976, in part, aims to stop election officials from rejecting appropriate challenges, election integrity experts say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The left is apoplectic over the bill. That\u2019s a good sign for anyone who values election integrity in Georgia.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As to the ACLU\u2019s allegations, HB 976 threatens fraudsters, not democracy. It clarifies conditions for challenging invalid voter roll records and helps ensure challenges are based on corroborating facts. Those clarifications can actually reduce the burden on election officials or voters. Furthermore, the bill language is color-blind and has nothing to do with the race of any voter.<\/p>\n<p>On the ACLU\u2019s charges that the package threatens election integrity:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HB 976 greatly improves election integrity with open record ballots, ballot chain of custody, and voter roll cleanup provisions<\/li>\n<li>The language allows only government-created or recognized databases to be used for challenges, not isolated third-party databases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On charges that the bill wastes taxpayer money:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarifying invalid voter roll challenge criteria does not require additional costs, taxpayer dollars, or resources from election offices<\/li>\n<li>The clarifications do not expand criteria for voter challenges and, in fact, have limited them from using unreliable, out-of-date, third-party databases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On charges that the bill overburdens election workers:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Requiring election workers to help homeless people get their ballots should not be a burden<\/li>\n<li>The legislature has no control over the U.S. Postal Service\u2019s delivery to those who are homeless or other potential voters<\/li>\n<li>There is no evidence that HB 976 would increase challenges of voter roll records by simply clarifying challenge criteria<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAfter working for 20 years to advance the cause of election integrity in Georgia, it is infuriating for me to see our legislators attacked just for sincerely trying to perfect and pass election security bills that benefit all Georgia voters,\u201d said Garland Favorito, co-founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/voterga.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia<\/a> (VoterGA).
