Version: 4.0.47--><p>President Joe Biden receives backing from former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to boost his campaign ahead of the New York City fundraiser against ex-President Donald Trump.\u200d The Biden campaign asserts confidence despite challenges, aiming to gather broad support for Biden\u2019s re<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/project-veritas-strips-cnn-naked\/\" title=\"Project Veritas Strips CNN Naked\">-election bid<\/a>.\u2062 Meanwhile, Trump&#8217;s campaign emphasizes weaknesses in \u2062Biden&#8217;s approval ratings and minority community support.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>President Joe Biden<\/a> is hoping the star power of his Democratic predecessors, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/barack-obama\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>former Presidents Barack Obama<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bill-clinton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bill Clinton<\/a>, will shine a light on his campaign against another former president, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>, during a high-profile New York City fundraiser.<\/p>\n<p>But although his last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/state-of-the-union\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>State of the Union<\/a> before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>November\u2019s general election<\/a> addressed concerns about his age, his campaign is under pressure to make sure Biden is not overshadowed, particularly by his younger, more popular former boss.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign dismisses the idea that the president has an enthusiasm problem, citing expectations Thursday night\u2019s fundraiser could raise more than $10 million, with 3,000-plus attendees anticipated to be at Radio City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats are unified and energized behind President Biden\u2019s reelection\u00a0campaign, and\u00a0that will be on full display this Thursday in New York City,\u201d Biden campaign spokesman Kevin Munoz told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cDonald Trump has no juice heading into the general: Huge chunks of Republican primary voters have made clear they have no interest in voting for him this November,\u00a0Republican leaders like his own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-pence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>vice president<\/a> are openly opposing him,\u00a0and even if Trump wanted to reach them (he does not!), he has no cash\u00a0or energy\u00a0to do so.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cElections are\u00a0won by putting in the work to assemble a broad, diverse coalition, and Joe Biden is doing just that,\u201d Munoz said.<\/p>\n<p>Simultaneously, Republican strategist and former chief of staff to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Sen. Marco Rubio<\/a> (R-FL) Cesar Conda contended Biden\u2019s support in black, Hispanic, and Asian communities is \u201chemorrhaging.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taliban-surges-as-u-s-withdraws-from-afghanistan\/\" title=\"Taliban surges as U.S. withdraws from Afghanistan\">made significant gains<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/o-j-simpsons-alma-mater-to-host-panel-discussion-with-founder-of-scandal-plagued-lincoln-project\/\" title=\"O.J. Simpson\u2019s Alma Mater to Host Panel Discussion with Founder of Scandal-Plagued Lincoln Project\">minority voters<\/a>, which is why I think we will [see] Barack Obama earlier and often on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-tops-biden-in-battleground-pennsylvania-after-losing-there-in-2020-poll\/\" title=\"Trump wins Pennsylvania in latest poll, surpassing Biden after 2020 loss.\">campaign trail compared<\/a> to 2020,\u201d Conda told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think Obama\u2019s appeal will transfer to Biden because blacks and Hispanics have been battered by rising <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>gas prices<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/food\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>grocery bills<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/housing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>housing costs<\/a> caused by Biden\u2019s policies. They know that they were much better off financially during the Trump-era <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Trump campaign is claiming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hillary-clinton\/\">\u201cCrooked Hillary,\u201d<\/a> in addition to \u201cBarack Hussein Obama,\u201d is \u201ccoming out of the bullpen to help Joe Biden shuffle over the finish line because Democrats know Biden is weak, unpopular, and incompetent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir reinforcement efforts will fail when President Trump defeats them on Nov. 5,\u201d Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has an average 3 percentage point advantage over Biden when third-party and independent candidates are considered, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/general\/2024\/trump-vs-biden-vs-kennedy-vs-west-vs-stein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><em>RealClearPolitics<\/em><\/a>. The same polling aggregator finds Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-oregon-counties-vote-in-favor-of-seceding-to-join-idaho\/\" title=\"5 Oregon Counties Vote In Favor Of Seceding To Join Idaho\">average approval rating<\/a> to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/approval\/joe-biden\/approval-rating\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>net negative 17 points<\/a>, 40% approval to 57% disapproval.<\/p>\n<p>But Democrats have an edge over Republicans in that they have popular former presidents, while the GOP only has \u201cthe memory of Ronald Reagan,\u201d per George Mason University political science professor Jeremy Mayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-w-bush\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>George W. Bush<\/a> is almost a pariah in his own party, and his disgust with Trump\u2019s lies, tone, and criminality mean that Trump is anathema to him and that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>MAGA<\/a> base continues to hate the Bush family,\u201d Mayer told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThis must be frustrating to establishment Republicans because a former president can raise a lot of money, and Bush\u2019s popularity has been inching upwards since his 2009 departure from office. But it is more likely that Trump will choose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/vladimir-putin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>[Russian President Vladimir] Putin<\/a> as his running mate than that the Bush-Trump divide will be healed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Mayer, there are more complications for Democrats in deploying Bill Clinton because of \u201csome of his prior conduct,\u201d especially after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/metoo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>#MeToo movement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no such problems with Obama,\u201d Mayer said. \u201cHe will be Biden\u2019s most effective surrogate on the campaign trail. The earlier he starts, and the harder he works, the better for Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden and Obama\u2019s public \u201cbromance\u201d was not always their private relationship, specifically when the former vice president was deciding whether to run for president against Hillary Clinton in 2016. Obama, who this month caused issues for the White House when he met with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/united-kingdom\/\">British<\/a> Prime Minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/rishi-sunak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Rishi Sunak<\/a> at No. 10 Downing St., has also expressed his concerns about Biden\u2019s 2024 campaign to the president, his aides, even White House chief of staff <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jeff-zients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Jeff Zients<\/a>, the <em>New York Times<\/em> reported this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Obama and President Clinton strongly support President Biden\u2019s leadership and obviously his agenda,\u201d White House press secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karine-jean-pierre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a> told reporters Wednesday.\u00a0\u201cAll three have \u2014 agree overwhelmingly on the issues that this president has been fighting for for the past three years, including an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/bidenomics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economy<\/a> that works for all, leaves no one behind; that is an economy that\u2019s built from the bottom up, middle out; making sure that we protect our critical freedoms, that is something that they all three agree on, like a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>freedom to choose<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>protecting our democracy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign is describing Thursday night\u2019s fundraiser, organized in part by Anna Wintour, as \u201chistoric.\u201d For context, Biden and the Democratic Party raised $53 million last month, ending February with $155 million cash on hand. Trump\u2019s campaign and his Save America political action committee raised $16 million, with $37 million on hand, before he became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican presumptive nominee<\/a> and had access to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-national-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican National Committee<\/a> resources.<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by Mindy Kaling, the fundraiser\u2019s program will include performances by Queen Latifah, Lizzo, Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, and Lea Michele, though the campaign is billing an armchair conversation between Biden, Obama, and Bill Clinton, moderated by Stephen Colbert, as the headline.
