Six workers, including\u2063 immigrants from Honduras,\u2064 are presumed dead after a ship crash caused a bridge collapse, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-democrat-senator-urges-biden-to-reverse-on-keystone-pipeline-14-ags-threaten-legal-action\/\" title=\"Top Democrat Senator Urges Biden To Reverse On Keystone Pipeline, 14 AGs Threaten Legal Action\">hazardous materials<\/a> on board the ship that do not currently pose a public threat.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The bodies of two of the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/2940506\/baltimore-bridge-collapse-six-missing-victims-presumed-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> six missing construction workers <\/a>were recovered from a red truck that had sunk into the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/baltimore\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Baltimore Harbor<\/a> on Wednesday, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maryland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Maryland State Police<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The two men have been identified as 35-year-old Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes from <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Mexico<\/a> and 26-year-old Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera from <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/guatemala\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Guatemala<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cnn.com\/us\/live-news\/baltimore-key-bridge-collapse-03-27-24\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according<\/a> to Col. Roland L. Butler Jr., Maryland police superintendent. The families of Fuentes and Cabrera have been notified.<\/p>\n<p>The other four construction workers are also presumed dead, and other vehicles believed to be in the water are probably surrounded by rubble from the collapse, Butler said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Col. (AP Photo\/Ted Shaffrey)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the superstructure surrounding what we believe were the vehicles and the amount of concrete and debris, divers are no longer able to safely navigate and operate around that,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have exhausted all search efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The six construction workers are all immigrants from <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/honduras\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Honduras<\/a>, Guatemala, Mexico, and<a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/el-salvador\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title> El Salvador.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The recovery of the red truck, which was found 25 feet in the water, comes after a large <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/serious-danger-to-our-health-and-well-being-scientists-gear-up-to-battle-murder-hornets\/\" title=\"\u2018Serious Danger To Our Health And Well-Being\u2019: Scientists Gear Up To Battle Murder Hornets\">cargo ship<\/a> crashed into one of the support columns of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/2941033\/six-questions-francis-scott-key-bridge-answered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Francis Scott Key Bridge<\/a> early Tuesday morning. The ship had sent out a distress \u201cmayday\u201d signal prior to the crash that brought down the bridge.<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard on Wednesday warned that 56 of the containers onboard the ship contained hazardous materials, but the containers do not pose a current threat to the public because they are located far away from the bow of the ship where the most damage was done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe majority of those containers are closer to the pilot house and are completely unaffected by the damage to the bow of the ship, and we have not determined that there\u2019s any kind of release at this time,\u201d\u00a0Coast Guard Vice Adm. Peter Gautier <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/baltimore-bridge-collapse-coast-guard-says-56-containers-cargo-ship-hazardous-materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said during a White House <\/a>press briefing. <\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>A cargo ship is stuck under the part of the structure of the Francis Scott Key Bridge after the ship hit the bridge Wednesday, March 27, 2024, in Baltimore. (AP Photo\/Steve Helber)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe real critical thing here is that, as you know, a portion of the bridge remains on the bow on that ship, and we will be coordinating very closely with the Army Corps of Engineers and their contractors to first effect the removal of that debris before the vessel can then be removed. The vessel bow is sitting on the bottom because of the weight of that bridge debris on there,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gautier did not reveal what kind of hazardous material was in those containers, but it was only in 56 of the 4,700 containers on board the vessel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Coast Guard will also be working with the Army Corps of Engineers to clean up the harbor so it can resume port operations as quickly as possible, according to Transportation Secretary <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-buttigieg\">Pete Buttigieg<\/a>. But the recovery period is not expected to be quick or easy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reconstruction of the bridge is also not expected to be cheap. President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> said it was his plan that the federal government would foot the bill for the bridge\u2019s reconstruction, but such a project would need to be approved by <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Congress<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing the bridge,\u201d Biden said Tuesday. \u201cAnd I expect the Congress to support my effort. It\u2019s going to take some time.
