The bill, led by Democratic\u200c state Rep. Todd Rutherford, aims to remove the seldom-enforced law, allowing minors to enjoy playing pinball legally. The effort to overturn the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-ambassador-visits-taiwan-for-first-trip-since-1979\/\" title=\"U.S. Ambassador Visits Taiwan for First Trip Since 1979\">long-standing ban<\/a>\u2064 on minors playing \u2063pinball in South Carolina is moving forward successfully.\u200d The\u200b proposed legislation, introduced \u200blast year, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/womens-college-changes-librarys-name-over-racist-and-anti-semitic-history\/\" title=\"Women's college changes library's name over 'racist and anti-Semitic' history\">received unanimous approval<\/a> from the state House Judiciary Committee. Spearheaded \u2064by Democratic state Rep. Todd Rutherford, the bill seeks\u2064 to eliminate this rarely enforced \u200crestriction, granting minors the opportunity to engage in pinball legally.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Lawmakers in <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/south-carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"South Carolina\">South Carolina<\/a> have advanced an effort to repeal a ban on minors playing pinball, which was implemented last century.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation was introduced last year but passed the state House Judiciary Committee unanimously on Tuesday, moving it to the full House floor for consideration. The law is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-brief-history-of-the-roman-empire-part-3-land-reform-and-the-era-of-gracchi\/\" title=\"A Brief History Of The Roman Empire, Part 3: Land Reform And The Era Of Gracchi\">seldom enforced<\/a>, but Democratic state Rep. Todd Rutherford has led the effort to wipe the outdated statute from the books.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see the evil that is being taken care of by maintaining its illegality,\u201d Rutherford said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.counton2.com\/news\/south-carolina-news\/bill-that-would-repeal-south-carolinas-archaic-pinball-law-moves-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> WCBD.<\/p>\n<p>In state law, someone under the age of 18 playing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unlike-trumps-bidens-classified-docs-scandal-is-actually-real\/\" title=\"Unlike Trump's, Biden's Classified Docs Scandal Is Actually Real\">pinball machine<\/a> is considered a \u201cstatus offense\u201d \u2014 meaning it is not a misdemeanor or felony. State code also says that other status offenses include \u201cplaying or loitering in a billiard room\u201d and \u201cgaining admission to a theater by false identification,\u201d along with running away and truancy. The legislation would not strike the other status offenses listed in the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can tell you that the people that are operating these pinball places don\u2019t want to break the law,\u201d Rutherford said. \u201cThey also recognize that is the law as it stands right now. A lot of them are set up as restaurants. They have ABLs, and they don\u2019t want to run afoul of their ABL license by knowingly violating the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ban on pinball machine usage for minors stems from the middle of the 20th century when parents were concerned over the luck involved in winning early pinball machines combined with the prizes for wins and cost to play the machine \u2014 likening it to a form of gambling. <\/p>\n<p>Several states that had implemented a ban on pinball playing lifted it in the 1970s when skill was added to later iterations of the machines, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsfromthestates.com\/article\/its-illegal-children-play-pinball-sc-bill-hopes-change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> <em>States Newsroom<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A prior attempt to lift the ban passed in the state House in 2022, but stalled in the state Senate.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-signs-executive-order-to-make-it-easier-to-vote-calls-gop-election-reform-efforts-an-all-out-assault-on-voting-rights\/\" title=\"Biden Signs Executive Order \u2018To Make It Easier\u2019 To Vote, Calls GOP Election Reform Efforts \u2018An All-Out Assault\u2019 On Voting Rights\">current legislative session<\/a> is scheduled to adjourn on May 9, meaning lawmakers have more than a month to pass the measure in the state House and state Senate to send it to Gov.
