The\u2063 group is pushing \u2063for the &#8220;Protect \u200cKids of California Act \u200cof 2024,&#8221; which includes mandates on gender-related\u200b school policies. The attorney general&#8217;s office stands by its right to\u200d name initiatives, ensuring\u2064 accuracy and impartiality.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013 In response to a lawsuit by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/california-school-district-paid-20k-to-organization-called-woke-kindergarten\/\" title=\"California School District Paid k to Organization Called \"Woke Kindergarten\"\">parent activist group<\/a> who placed a ballot measure to change statewide educational policies for transgender minors, California Attorney General Rob Bonta backed his office\u2019s naming of the controversial initiative.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parent activist group Protect Kids California is currently collecting signatures for what it calls the Protect Kids of California Act of 2024, which would\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/california\/article_89d0e83a-cb94-11ee-8491-9fc46eb3661e.html\">require<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0schools to notify parents if children request to be treated as a different gender, block transgender females from participating in female sports, and mandate that students participate in activities and use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-thwart-pro-life-pro-woman-anti-racist-bills-in-virginias-legislature\/\" title=\"Republicans Thwart Pro-Life, Pro-Woman, Anti-Racist Bills In Virginia\u2019s Legislature\">school facilities consistent<\/a> with their birth genders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The attorney general\u2019s office, which state law empowers to issue official titles and summaries for proposed initiatives, named the measure the \u201cRestricts Rights of Transgender Youth Initiative,\u201d and will soon go to trial against PKC on April 19 for this name. Bonta\u2019s office declined to comment on the pending litigation but defended both its right and its naming of the initiative in a statement to The Center Square.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder California law, the Attorney General\u2019s Office is responsible for issuing official titles and summaries describing the chief purpose and points of every proposed initiative submitted in compliance with procedural requirements,\u201d said the attorney general\u2019s office in a statement. \u201cWe take this responsibility seriously and stand by our title and summary for this measure.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>PKC claims that \u201cAs part of his duties as Attorney General, Rob Bonta was required to provide a neutral and accurate title and summary for the initiative,\u201d and that \u201cthe title and summary mislead voters and mischaracterize the ballot initiative\u2019s intent and impact.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The power of California\u2019s attorney general to name ballot initiatives has not been without controversy. A 2018 initiative presented as \u201cRepeal the Gas Tax\u201d was signed by nearly one million California voters. Then-California attorney general and current U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.ca.gov\/campaign-lobbying\/cal-access-resources\/measure-contributions\/2018-ballot-measure-contribution-totals\/17-0033-eliminates-recently-enacted-road-repair-and-transportation-funding-repealing-revenues-dedicated-those-purposes-requires\">named<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0the measure \u201cEliminates Recently Enacted Road Repair and Transportation Funding by Repealing Revenues Dedicated For Those Purposes. Requires Any Measure to Enact Certain Vehicle Fuel Taxes and Vehicle Fees Be Submitted to and Approved By the Electorate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Polling found strong support for the proposition before the wording, but strong opposition after the wording, leading San Francisco Chronicle columnists Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross to claim the wording was behind the flip in public sentiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite early widespread support for repealing last year\u2019s gas tax increase, fresh polling by the Public Policy Institute of California shows a majority of voters now oppose Proposition 6,\u201d wrote Matier and Ross. \u201cThe most likely explanation for the flip is the wording of Prop. 6, which was approved by Attorney General Xavier Becerra.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The question now is whether or not the wording by Bonta, which is likely to go unchanged, will dampen the initiative\u2019s signature collection effort and potential election outcome. PKC cited polling finding 68% of California voters, including 65% of Democrats, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nearly-two-thirds-of-parents-support-floridas-ban-on-teaching-5-year-olds-about-gender-identity\/\" title=\"Nearly Two-Thirds of Parents Support Florida\u2019s Ban on Teaching 5-Year-Olds About Gender Identity\">support schools notifying parents<\/a> if their child identifies or requests to be identified or treated as a gender different from their biological sex.
