On March 20, 2024, the EPA introduced new rules for Multi-Pollutant \u200cEmissions Standards for\u2064 Model Years 2027 and Beyond, aiming to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-california-law-makes-possessing-9-or-more-catalytic-converters-illegal\/\" title=\"California outlaws possession of 9+ catalytic converters.\">reduce harmful emissions<\/a>\u2062 from light-duty and medium-duty vehicles. The standards are\u200d considered less \u200cstrict than the agency&#8217;s previous proposal.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>(The Center Square) \u2013\u00a0Saying it\u2019s too much, too soon, numerous groups are denouncing the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s recently announced emission standards, with the Illinois Corn Growers Association being one of them.<\/p>\n<p>On March 20, 2024, EPA announced a final rule, Multi-Pollutant Emissions Standards for Model Years 2027 and Later Light-Duty and Medium-Duty Vehicles, that sets new, more protective standards to further reduce harmful air pollutant emissions from light-duty and medium-duty vehicles starting with model year 2027.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The EPA said the new\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/regulations-emissions-vehicles-and-engines\/final-rule-multi-pollutant-emissions-standards-model\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rules<\/a><\/strong>, which are less strict than what the agency proposed last year, will avert 7 billion tons of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">greenhouse gas emissions<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe standards announced today are a step forward for cleaner air and lower costs for drivers,\u201d said Peter Huether, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-will-no-longer-require-in-person-doctor-visits-for-abortion-pill\/\" title=\"FDA Will No Longer Require In-Person Doctor Visits for Abortion Pill\">senior research associate<\/a> with the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy. \u201cThey will lead to the cleanest vehicles to date and help us meet the president\u2019s climate pledges.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As EVs sit on car dealer lots, some companies are scaling back their electric offerings, including Ford and GM.<\/p>\n<p>A new\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecentersquare.com\/national\/article_3e4a26f4-eb67-11ee-a12a-ef2b886bf296.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0by The Center Square Voters\u2019 Voice shows that nearly two-thirds of voters say the government is pushing EVs too hard because there is insufficient demand.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Garrett Hawkins, vice president of the Illinois Corn Growers Association,\u00a0said\u00a0the rush by the government to\u00a0convert to battery EVs would be devastating for the Illinois farming community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this policy, we could have a 50% decrease in the price of corn, and with that you would have rural America and farmers not doing as well,\u201d said Hawkins. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a direct hit to the Midwest.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. J.B. Pritzker said his goal is to have 1 million EVs on Illinois roadways by the year 2030. State officials said there will need to be around 36,000 charging ports to support that number.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Critics also point to the high cost of electric vehicles. The Rivian R1T EV pickup truck, manufactured in Normal, starts at $73,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is disappointing that the Biden Administration continues to be actively working against its stated goal of \u2018equipping the American middle class to succeed,\u2019\u201d said David Holt, president of Consumer Energy Alliance. \u201cWhile electric vehicles clearly have a role in our vehicle mix, the middle class cannot succeed with the EPA forcing an unworkable, expensive EV quota on working class families.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several organizations, including the Illinois Corn Growers Association, express opposition to the EPA&#8217;s new emission standards, deeming them excessive and premature.
