Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld said there were six people unaccounted for who were on the bridge at the time of the incident, but one body has been found, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NewsCentralCNN\/status\/1772712757881606553\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> Baltimore City Councilwoman Phylicia Porter.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>The Virginia Port Authority said it has experience with handling import and export surges and is standing ready to help Baltimore. Operations at Baltimore\u2019s ports have been halted for the time being.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur operating team is already working with ocean carriers whose vessels were due to call Baltimore and offering the capability of our port to discharge cargoes as requested,\u201d Port of Virginia spokesman Joe Harris said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.portofvirginia.com\/who-we-are\/newsroom\/statement-on-collision-at-port-of-baltimore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>statement<\/a>. \u201cThe Port of Virginia has a significant amount of experience in handling surges of import and export cargo and is ready to provide whatever assistance we can to the team at the Port of Baltimore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ship traffic and operations that should have gone through Baltimore will now likely be rerouted through other ports, including ports in Virginia, <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>New York<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pennsylvania\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pennsylvania<\/a>. However, the effects of Baltimore\u2019s closure could be felt as far south as the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/south-carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Carolinas<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/georgia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Norfolk is the closest port to the crash, so it will likely see the most traffic, according to Rachel Shames, vice president of pricing and procurement for CV International, a Norfolk-based international logistics and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rahm-emanuels-china-ties-are-disqualifying-for-japan-ambassadorship-hawley-says\/\" title=\"Rahm Emanuel\u2019s China Ties Are \u2018Disqualifying\u2019 for Japan Ambassadorship, Hawley Says\">transportation company<\/a>. However, the port in Newport News, Virginia, has facilities that can accommodate the large cargo ships.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is capacity at [Newport News Marine Terminal] \u2026 but not a lot, nothing like what Baltimore can do. It will not be as simple as just shifting,\u201d Shames <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginiabusiness.com\/article\/baltimore-bridge-collapse-will-drive-ships-to-port-of-va\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> <em>Virginia Business. <\/em>\u201cUnfortunately, I think we are going to be looking at congestion, and I just don\u2019t know how long. That can mean delays for cargo [and] probably extra costs.
