Bob Casey says he opposes sanctuary cities, but the Pennsylvania Democrat spoke last year at an event for a group that wants American mayors to make their cities havens for illegal aliens.<\/p>\n<p>Casey <a href=\"https:\/\/mayorsinnovation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/868\/2023\/08\/MIP-Summer-2023-Agenda.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke<\/a> on Aug. 10, 2023, at an annual conference for the Mayors Innovation Project, which bills itself a &#8220;national learning network&#8221; for mayors to develop policies to deal with &#8220;climate change, racial equity, economic revitalization, housing, and more.&#8221; The group discourages mayors from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and supports instituting sanctuary policies to help create &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrats-cling-to-sanctuary-policies-despite-emergency-immigration-declarations\/\" title=\"Despite the declaration of immigration emergencies, Democrats continue to support sanctuary policies.\">immigrant-friendly cities<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do not participate in the enforcement of federal civil immigration law,&#8221; the group <a href=\"https:\/\/mayorsinnovation.org\/policy-topics\/race-equity-and-civil-rights\/immigrant-friendly-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tells mayors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Mayors Innovation Project also urged mayors to provide aliens with government-issued IDs, regardless of &#8220;immigration or criminal status.&#8221; The group highlighted a Maryland city that lets non-citizens vote in local elections.<\/p>\n<p>The project&#8217;s agenda contradicts Casey&#8217;s claims to oppose sanctuary cities. A spokesman for Casey said this month that the senator &#8220;doesn&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sanctuary-city-nyc-gives-up-ships-illegal-aliens-to-canada\/\" title=\"Sanctuary City NYC Gives Up, Ships Illegal Aliens to Canada\">support sanctuary cities<\/a> and believes all jurisdictions must cooperate with ICE and law enforcement at all levels.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It marks a pattern of Casey appearing alongside groups whose causes he claims to oppose. Casey appeared at a campaign event last week organized by Indivisible Philadelphia, which has called to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/president-trump-headlines-save-america-rally-in-sarasota-fla\/\" title=\"President Trump headlines Save America rally in Sarasota, Fla.\">defund police departments<\/a>, the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/democrats\/bob-casey-will-campaign-with-anti-police-group-amid-tough-reelection-fight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. Indivisible Philadelphia&#8217;s parent organization, the Indivisible Project, has called to defund Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Casey&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/inside-leonard-leos-fight-against-the-investigation-into-his-conservative-network\/\" title=\"Leonard Leo's battle against probe into his conservative network.\">left-wing affiliations<\/a> have become a focal point in his campaign for reelection. Republican candidate Dave McCormick blasted Casey for appearing at the Indivisible Philadelphia event and has accused the Democrat of supporting soft immigration policies.<\/p>\n<p>Casey voted against a 2016 bill that would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-slam-biden-administrations-disturbing-attack-on-charter-schools\/\" title=\"House Republicans Slam Biden Administration\u2019s \u2018Disturbing Attack\u2019 on Charter Schools\">cut federal funding<\/a> for sanctuary cities. He also voted in 2016 against Kate&#8217;s Law, which would stiffen criminal penalties for illegal aliens with multiple illegal entries into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Casey spoke at the Mayors Innovation Project alongside Sen. John Fetterman (D., Pa.) and Scranton mayor Paige Cognetti, a member of the group&#8217;s steering committee. Cognetti, a Democrat, supports relaxed immigration policies. Citing the coronavirus pandemic, Cognetti in 2021\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5b60b2381aef1dbe876cd08f\/t\/60fed4b43e6c154ba07a86b0\/1627313332411\/7.26.21+WAH+Mayors+Sign+on+Letter+(FINAL).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">urged<\/a> President Joe Biden to expedite citizenship for millions of illegal aliens, including &#8220;essential workers, and their families.&#8221;\t<\/p>\n<p>During the event, Casey <a href=\"https:\/\/scrantonpa.gov\/scranton-hosts-mayors-innovation-project-summer-2023-meeting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">praised<\/a> Cognetti for her &#8220;willingness to lead in a really difficult job in a difficult time for our city, for our Commonwealth, for our country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, mayor, thank you for your leadership here in Scranton,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senator Bob Casey claims to be against sanctuary cities, but he participated in a gathering for a group advocating the creation of these cities.
