Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the top Democrat on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-oversight\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>House Oversight Committee<\/a>, along with Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), <a href=\"https:\/\/oversightdemocrats.house.gov\/sites\/democrats.oversight.house.gov\/files\/2024-03-26.Raskin%20Garcia%20to%20Comer%20Grothman%20re%20Kushner%20Hearing.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>sent a letter<\/a> on Tuesday asking top GOP officials on the committee to hold a hearing over allegations Kushner is pursuing new business deals overseas. Democrats are accusing the former White House official of influence peddling, noting the business activity coincides with former President Donald Trump clinching the GOP presidential nomination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Committee cannot claim to be \u2018investigating foreign nationals\u2019 attempts to target and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-insider-who-played-key-role-in-business-deals-subpoenaed-he-has-significant-information\/\" title=\"Biden Insider Who Played Key Role in Business Deals Subpoenaed: 'He Has Significant Information'\">coerce high-ranking<\/a> U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/andrew-cuomos-5-worst-moves-as-new-yorks-governor\/\" title=\"Andrew Cuomo\u2019s 5 Worst Moves As New York\u2019s Governor\">officials\u2019 family members<\/a> by providing money or other benefits in exchange for certain actions\u2019 while continuing to ignore these matters,\u201d the lawmakers wrote. \u201cWe therefore urge you to work with us to finally investigate Mr. Kushner\u2019s receipt of billions of dollars from foreign governments in deals that appear to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/david-krayden-special-counsel-jack-smith-is-meant-to-intimidate-not-just-trump-but-all-republicans\/\" title=\"David Krayden: Special Counsel Jack Smith Is Meant to Intimidate Not Just Trump, But All Republicans\">quid pro quos<\/a> for actions he undertook as senior White House adviser in Donald Trump\u2019s Administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The letter comes in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/03\/15\/us\/politics\/jared-kushner-pursuing-development-deals-in-albania-and-serbia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>response to a story<\/a> from the <em>New York Times <\/em>earlier this month that reported Kushner was looking to close in on major real estate deals in Albania and Serbia, with Democrats questioning whether he leveraged relationships he built while working for the Trump administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Raskin and Garcia specifically cited an investment Kushner is reportedly considering on the site of the former Yugoslav Ministry of Defense, which Trump was allegedly eyeing before his presidency, according to the report. It\u2019s not clear if Trump has any interest in Kushner\u2019s possible deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is only the most recent example of Mr. Kushner\u2019s pattern of profiting off of his time in the White House,\u201d the lawmakers said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The pair also pointed to accusations Kushner \u201cleveraged his key governmental role shaping U.S. foreign policy during the Trump Administration to secure billions of dollars in investments from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/crypto-platforms-tap-floyd-mayweather-kim-kardashian-tiktok-stars-for-ad-campaigns\/\" title=\"Crypto Platforms Tap Floyd Mayweather, Kim Kardashian, TikTok Stars For Ad Campaigns\">sovereign wealth funds<\/a> of Gulf monarchies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The request comes as Democrats have recently pressed House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to drop his efforts to investigate Biden and instead turn his focus to the former president and his son-in-law for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-grill-fed-nominee-over-alleged-influence-peddling\/\" title=\"Republicans Grill Fed Nominee Over Alleged Influence Peddling\">alleged influence peddling<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Comer said he had previously pledged to \u201cwork on influence peddling,\u201d suggesting he would be willing to look into allegations against Kushner, who served as the senior adviser to the president in the Trump White House.
