Maryland, New Jersey,\u2064 New York, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington,\u200b Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia have shown interest in enforcing \u2062similar regulations. Additionally, \u2064Delaware and Colorado are moving towards aligning with California&#8217;s standards on electric vehicles. California has seen a significant increase in EV sales, with 21.3% of cars \u2062sold in the first nine months of 2023 being electric vehicles, doubling from the previous year.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/electric-vehicles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"electric vehicle\">electric vehicle<\/a> mandate has raised skepticism and backlash from the automotive industry and consumers; still, a handful of states are looking to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">California<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-states-move-toward-banning-gas-powered-vehicles\/\" title=\"More States Move Toward Banning Gas-Powered Vehicles\">banning gas-powered vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the Environmental Protection Agency announced that by 2032, 70% of new cars and trucks sold cannot have tailpipe emissions. California was the first to adopt the new initiative, and now other states are deciding if they want to follow the Golden State\u2019s lead.<\/p>\n<p>So far, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, and Rhode Island are among the states that plan to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035, <a href=\"https:\/\/money.com\/states-banning-gas-powered-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>according to<\/a> <em>Money<\/em>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/city-run-by-democrats-for-60-straight-years-ranked-worst-place-to-raise-family\/\" title=\"City Run by Democrats for 60 Straight Years Ranked Worst Place To Raise Family\">personal finance website<\/a>. The District of Columbia has also made the commitment to adopt the ban.<\/p>\n<p>States like <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/delaware-electric-vehicle-mandate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Delaware<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradosun.com\/2023\/10\/23\/colorado-clean-electric-cars-mandate-82\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Colorado<\/a> are also taking steps to follow California\u2019s standard. While the two states passed the EV mandate last year, which proposed that by 2032 EVs must make up 82% of car sales, they have not fully adopted the goal of banning 100% of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>In California, EVs accounted for 21.3% of cars being sold within the first nine months of 2023 which was twice as much from the year prior, data produced at the end of last year showed. In San Jose, 40% of car registrations are for EVs \u2014 that\u2019s more than any other city in the country, according to S&#038;P Global Mobility data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2024\/03\/06\/climate\/hybrid-electric-vehicle-popular.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"shared\">shared<\/a> with the <em>New York Times<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\u00a0CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER\u00a0\"><strong>\u00a0CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Following backlash from the automotive industry over the new rule, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/2862534\/shocking-development-biden-plans-to-roll-back-rule-designed-to-juice-ev-push-on-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"eased up\">eased up<\/a> on the mandate, and is now allowing the industry to have a more gradual transition, giving manufacturers until after 2030 to increase EV sales. Meanwhile, some consumers remain hesitant to embrace Biden\u2019s greener alternative to gas-powered vehicles, saying reliability, cost, and a lack of charging stations are major concerns.<\/p>\n<p>While some states are taking up the ambitious new rule, not everyone is sold on Biden\u2019s EV standards. Republican lawmakers in Louisiana <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/2923573\/louisiana-republicans-bills-combatting-potential-gas-powered-vehicle-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"proposed\">proposed<\/a> legislation earlier this month to block the ban of gas-powered vehicles in the state. Gov.
