Paxton was accused\u200d of deceiving investors in a technology start-up company before assuming office.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p><strong>AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 <\/strong>Defense lawyers for Texas Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ken-paxton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Ken Paxton<\/a> scored a major victory Tuesday as special prosecutors announced a deal to forego a trial on securities <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/waste-and-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>fraud<\/a> charges against the politician nearly a decade after he was indicted.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors announced Tuesday morning that they had reached a deal to dismiss charges against the third-term Republican <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/attorney-general\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>attorney general<\/a>. Paxton was first indicted in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>However, Paxton must pay approximately $300,000 in restitution to victims, complete 100 hours of community service, and attend 15 hours of legal ethics education in return for having the three felony counts against him wiped out.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton was accused of tricking people into investing in a technology start-up company outside Dallas prior to his being elected the state\u2019s top lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>He was slated to go on trial in mid-April and could have faced life in prison if convicted.<\/p>\n<p>Paxton is allowed to remain in office and retain his law license, a huge win for the state, which is leading several lawsuits aimed at the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>The good news for Paxton comes six months after he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2764148\/texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton-acquitted-on-all-16-impeachment-charges-by-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>acquitted<\/a> on charges in the state Senate after the Republican-controlled House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/?p=2436666\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>voted<\/a> to impeach him on 16 articles related to bribery, disregard of official duty, and dereliction of duty.\u00a0Paxton had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2449441\/ken-paxtons-incredibly-dangerous-behavior-forced-staff-to-go-to-fbi-impeachment-witness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>accused<\/a> of using his power to help real estate developer Nate Paul.<\/p>\n<p>The 31-person Senate was composed of 12 Democrats and 19 Republicans, including Sen.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/ken-paxton-wife-responds-alleged-mistress-impeachment-stand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Angela Paxton<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fncs-dean-msm-coverage-of-cuomo-was-puff-pieces-while-there-were-bodybags-piling-up\/\" title=\"FNC's Dean: MSM Coverage of Cuomo Was 'Puff Pieces' While 'There Were Bodybags Piling up'\">attorney general\u2019<\/a>s wife.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sen.
