It is the first major <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"abortion\">abortion<\/a> case before the Supreme Court since the 2022 decision in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dobbs-v-jackson-womens-health-organization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/a><\/em>, which overruled <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> and sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-sends-texas-abortion-case-to-more-conservative-court-against-wishes-of-abortion-providers\/\" title=\"Supreme Court Sends Texas Abortion Case To More Conservative Court, Against Wishes Of Abortion Providers\">abortion law back<\/a> to states to decide, and the decision could have a similar impact on elections as <em>Dobbs<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The dispute made its way to the Supreme Court after a district judge decided to revoke the FDA\u2019s approval of the drug, making headlines and causing uproar from some activists. An appeals court later upheld some restrictions on the pill imposed by the district court. <\/p>\n<p>The court is likely to issue its decision in the case in June on whether to keep the original restrictions on the pill or allow the loosening of restrictions the FDA made in 2016. The restrictions would be federal, meaning they would apply nationwide rather than state by state.<\/p>\n<p>A restriction in the pill\u2019s access from the court\u2019s decision could be as influential as <em>Dobbs<\/em>, Alexis McGill Johnson, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, told the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing into the summer with a negative ruling by Trump\u2019s Supreme Court essentially, I think, would turn the tide even more in stronger favor for the Biden-Harris administration,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision was blamed as one of the factors for Republican underperformance in what was expected to be a \u201cred wave\u201d election. The GOP lost several key races nationwide as abortion was brought to the center of the national debate.
